Our programs support multiple Federal agencies, including the Department of Defense. We are seeking a Machinist to support our customer's operations at Nellis AFB, NV. This effort provides our Government customer with aircraft instrumentation systems support. This position will be on-site and will require an active TS/SCI.

Responsibilities:

• Possess knowledge of a variety of conventional machine tools such as lathes; vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, and universal milling machines; shapers; planers; internal and external grinders; thread cutters; and radial drills; and cutting saws, power hacksaws, screw machines, drill presses, shapers, and related shop equipment
• Possess knowledge of the physical properties of numerous metals, metal alloys, plastics, rubber, and other materials to determine their adaptability to the specifications required of the item to be made; and the effect of hardening, annealing, and stress relieving on metals and metal alloys to choose the proper materials for specific items to be made and make dimensional allowances for such processes.
• Possess knowledge of machine shop practices and processes, and of technological changes as they occur and affect manufacturing procedures.
• Possess knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, including plane geometry, the use of trigonometric functions, and toolmaker handbook formulas in establishing needed dimensions and plan and layout work.
• Possess knowledge of grit-type, grit size, and various bonds used in grinding wheels to select a wheel of the proper grit, bond, and diameter, and compute the correct surface speed in accordance with the material to be ground, edge, or radius to be held, or other critical factors.
• Possess knowledge and the skill to use precision instruments and equipment common to the trade such as vernier calipers; height gages; squares; protractors; inside, outside and depth micrometers; surface gages; vee blocks; Johanssen and similar gage blocks; dial indicators; optical and electrical comparators, and various types of micrometers and super micrometers; and measuring devices such as scales, toolmaker's button, dividers, surface gages, sine bars, protractors, steel squares, optical flats, and straight edges.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

• US Citizenship
• Active TS/SCI.

Required Experience:

• Experience in planning, layout, machining, assembly, and hand finishing of work to precise dimensions and close tolerances.
• Experience in adapting, setting up, and operating a variety of conventional machine tools and attachments to perform special and precise machining operations by devising and constructing fixtures and holding devices; and in the set up and operation of specialized and precision machines such as jig borers, jig grinders, internal and external thread grinders, and various types of electrical discharge machines to manufacture, overhaul, and repair tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, molds, and gages.
• Experience in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, multi-view mechanical drawings, and sketches.
• Experience preparing own sketches from oral or written instructions; calculating and working to precise dimensions and very close tolerances; making detailed and exact work layouts; and accomplishing complex machine setups.
• Experience checking the accuracy of existing tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges; and fabricating, repairing, modifying, and calibrating precision measuring instruments used in the machine shops.

Education and Certifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent plus 5 years' experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk, stand, and climb stairs and steps. May require walking long distance from parking to workstation. Occasionally, movement that requires twisting at the neck and/or trunk more than the average person, squatting/ stooping/kneeling, reaching above the head, and forward motion will be required. The employee will continuously be required to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Manual and finger dexterity are essential to this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and telling differences among colors. The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and the public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement of up to 20 pounds. This position demands tolerance for various levels of mental stress.
