Duties
Help
  • Serve as the SSO Diagnosis Related Group (DRG)/Coding Compliance Officer for all Military Treatment Facilities (MTF).
  • The technical expert in developing, coordinating, training, evaluating and auditing the DRG and Ambulatory Patient Classification (APC) program.
  • Act as coding compliance, coding instructor and auditor trainer in support of the SSO Inpatient program.
  • Report to the Senior Health System Specialist, Patient Administrator Chief, Health Information Management Services/Army Coding Consultant/Medical Record Administrator (MRA) on performance, progress and training needs of employees.
  • Monitor, plan, design and maintain coding compliance to meet both the National and DoD coding guidelines.
  • Conduct internal coding audits and provide education and training to the auditors and coding staff on proper documentation and coding compliance.
  • Report non-compliant issues detected during the auditing process, develop corrective action plans, and trend these results using Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting medical coding utilizing Diagnostic Related Groups (DRG's); conducting independent examination of medical documentation to ensure accuracy of coding into an automated health system; auditing medical records to ensure proper sequence of diagnoses are documented in accordance with coding instructions; and facilitating medical coding training to ensure compliance with established regulations.

Preferred but not required, current Certified Credentialed Coding Specialist, a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
