As a OPERATIONS RESEARCH ANALYST at the GS-1515-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Receiving and studying technical publications, regulations, directives, manuals and policy statements to determine their effect on current policy statements and approaches to various analysis studies.
  • Performing as project team leader in planning, conducting, and accomplishing research, or self-developed and VCJCS-level directed studies applicable to existing or propose initiative and outcome.
  • Analyzing complex management problems by applying expert knowledge of various classes analytic methods including optimization, modeling and simulation, statistical analysis or mathematical techniques.
  • Serve as technical advisor and develops and disseminates Joint Staff policy guidance and instructions.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the 13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Initiating, planning, and conducting studies and analysis that produce estimates of requirements (financials, personnel, materiel, and facilities) for Capability Gap Assessments, and Capability Portfolio Management Reviews, and the Planning Programming Budget and Execution (PPBE).
  • Applying and adapting principles, practices, and analytic strategies from the quantitative social sciences.
  • Performing research and continuous learning in specialized areas to develop and maintain a state-of-the-art competency in mathematical and statistical techniques.
  • Knowledge of technical publications, regulations, directives, manuals, and policy statements to determine their effect on current policy statements and approaches to various analysis studies.
In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1515, series as listed below:

Degree In operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
