As a Sr. Back End Developer III, you'll provide senior-level engineering support across sustainment, federation, and modernization efforts for mission-critical modeling and simulation systems. This role designs, develops, enhances, and sustains complex back-end software and simulation behaviors, ensuring operational fidelity, interoperability, and readiness for Air Force training and exercise environments. The position is a senior individual contributor role responsible for maintaining the operational baseline while also delivering new behaviors and enhancements aligned with evolving mission requirements.

What you'll do:
  • Design, develop, enhance, debug, and maintain back-end software supporting modeling and simulation systems.
  • Sustain the operational simulation baseline through defect resolution, change requests, and deficiency report integration.
  • Develop and modernize simulation behaviors, models, and data structures aligned to operational requirements.
  • Support federation and interoperability with external simulators, AOC systems, and joint or coalition environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex simulation behaviors, integrations, and performance issues in development and live event contexts.
  • Work closely with Government SMEs to ensure simulation fidelity and mission realism.
  • Support transition of PTT-related workloads into the operational baseline as required.
  • Provide technical input to product and program leadership on risks, dependencies, readiness, and scope estimates.
  • Participate in Agile planning, sprint execution, integration testing, and release activities in coordination with PM, Product, Test, and DevSecOps teams.

What you'll need to succeed:
  • Active U.S. Government issued Secret clearance.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python supporting complex systems
  • Experience sustaining and enhancing operational modeling and simulation systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex defects in mission-relevant environments
  • Experience working across the full software development lifecycle in Agile teams

SALARY RANGE: $152,000 - $166,000

The salary range for this position is determined based on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. The final salary offered will be determined based on several factors including:
  • The candidate's professional background and relevant work experience
  • The specific responsibilities of the role and organizational needs
  • Internal equity and alignment with current team compensation
  • This role is also eligible for additional compensation, subject to the terms and policies of MetroStar, which may include:
    • Performance-based bonuses
    • Company-paid training and/or certifications
    • Referral bonuses
