Network Cabling Engineer
This position requires an active TS/Sensitive Compartmental Information (SCI) clearance or the ability to obtain a TS/Sensitive Compartmental Information (SCI) clearance to be considered.
The Network/Cabling Engineer maintain all aspects of inside/outside telecommunications and data network infrastructure and cabling. Serves as the primary point of contact for all DT wiring and cabling requirements for the Baghdad Embassy Compound (BEC) and constituent posts. Incumbent is responsible for coordinating with the various DT sub-sections, Information Programs Center, Information Systems Center, DT, Radio, DT Telephone and other sections/agency that require Information Technology infrastructure support. Ideally, the engineer will have experience and/or certification in Networking or Telephone systems.

Network Cabling Engineer Responsibilities Include:
- Provides proper grounding of various types of communications equipment and hardware using proper tools and safety practices.
- Responsible for the installation and repair of multiple types of cable to meet industry standards.
- Perform preventative maintenance on the Department of State Baghdad Embassy, US Consulates Erbil and Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center inside/outside plant infrastructure including risers and pedestals.
- Installs, terminates, and labels new cabling into office spaces and cubicles.
- Creates and updates diagrams and cable schematics.
- Uses software and hardware tools used to determine nature of problems such as Netview, Solarwinds utilities, LAN analyzer, signal generator, data line test set, and power line monitor.
- Operates test equipment to include oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, tone generators, optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR) and optical power meters.
- Adhere to company, industry, local, state, and federal regulations and standards, as applicable.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Network Cabling Engineer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Five (5) years' experience in the telecommunications industry required.
- Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Certification or equivalent required.
- BICSI Installer 1 required
- BICSI Installer 2 required
- BICSI Installer 2 Optical Fiber or equivalent required
- Experience in the installation of telephone and data network equipment and cabling plant.
- Experience in the installation, termination and testing of CAT 5,5e, 6, 6a premise wiring and ISP/OSP fiber optic single-mode/multi-mode cabling.
- Knowledge of DC power systems, Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) standards, established safety and quality practices.
- Ability to perform cabling, wiring, basic spicing functions, cable and lead verification and use basic method of procedure for job specifications and drawings.
- Substantial knowledge in data center design, including an overview of the data center design process, design criteria, systems, components, sustainability, commissioning, and maintenance.
- Read and accurately interpret system/network design maps. Verify as built documentation; compare findings in the field with existing documentation and report findings following local process.
- Experience installing/configuring/maintaining Cisco network switches.
- Experience installing/configuring/ maintaining Avaya PBX and client switches.
- Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
- Ability to plan and organize.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer skills (both verbal and written).
- Proficient using Microsoft Visio.
- Ability to travel within country as required.
