About The Role

Peraton is currently seeking to hire a Cybersecurity Engineer - VMware Systems Architect.

Location: Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, VA (On-Site)

Peraton is seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer Manager with 10+ years of VMware expertise to support the research, testing, and development of advanced military systems. In this role, you will help design, secure, and modernize mission-critical systems that directly support national defense.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyze cybersecurity risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Design and implement secure system architectures.
  • Conduct Testing & Evaluation (T&E) to validate system security.
  • Maintain cybersecurity controls throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Strengthen and modernize legacy system security.
  • Apply frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK and MITRE D3FEND.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments using ACAS and apply remediations.
  • Implement and enforce security controls across networks, hardware, and software.
  • Provide threat intelligence insights and stay current on emerging threats.
  • Lead system architecture design, modeling, integration, and testing.
  • Architect, configure, optimize, and troubleshoot VMware environments including ESXi 7/8, vCenter, and Horizon VDI. You must have extensive hands-on experience with the VMware ESX Family, including ESXi, vCenter, and VMware Horizon VDI and a combined 10-years of full-time professional experience across: System hardening against cyber threats; Networking and virtualization technologies; Cybersecurity frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK or MITRE D3FEND; Threat intelligence and identifying emerging threats; Vulnerability assessments using ACAS; Remediation of vulnerabilities, including vendor patching on Linux and Windows; Designing, implementing, configuring, and enforcing security controls across networks, hardware, and software.

Qualifications

Required Minimum requirements are:

Education:
  • BS and 10 years of related, relevant experience. An additional 4+ years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
Technical Expertise:
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the VMware ESX Family, including ESXi, vCenter, and VMware Horizon VDI
  • Combined 10 years of full-time professional experience across:
    • System hardening against cyber threats.
    • Networking and virtualization technologies.
    • Cybersecurity frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK or MITRE D3FEND.
    • Threat intelligence and identifying emerging threats.
    • Vulnerability assessments using ACAS.
    • Remediation of vulnerabilities, including vendor patching on Linux and Windows.
    • Designing, implementing, configuring, and enforcing security controls across networks, hardware, and software.
Certifications:
  • Must meet DoD 8570.01-M Baseline Certification, minimum IAT Level III, in accordance with DFARS 252.239-7001.
  • Any one of the following is acceptable (or must be obtained within 60 days of start):
    • CASP CE / SecurityX
    • CCNP Security
    • CISA
    • CISSP (or Associate)
    • GCED
    • GCIH
    • CCSP
Clearance & Additional Requirements:
  • Active Top Secret clearance or higher, with SCI eligibility
  • Current U.S. Passport, or ability to obtain one prior to start
  • Travel may be required up to 10%

Preferred:
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering.

Details

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
