Steampunk is seeking a Project Manager who is creative and is a hands-on expert with delivering innovative technology solutions.
Responsibilities will include team leadership for the complete life cycle of solution development and delivery, providing Agile Project Management support and Scrum Master support for Agile teams, coordinating with product owners and stakeholders on prioritizing the backlog, creating release schedules and roadmaps based on assessment recommendations, and establishing technical practices and release management standards that align with the customer's process. This individual will also ensure the team is following, and effective at, Agile scrum processes as well as driving high client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities
- Support delivery of enterprise-scale data modernization initiatives, including cloud data platforms, analytics environments, and AI/ML-enabled data pipelines.
- Partner closely with the Lead Data Architect to plan, sequence, and track work across complex data architectures involving ingestion, transformation, storage, and data consumption layers.
- Manage delivery across multiple interconnected technical workstreams, such as data engineering, data architecture, analytics, AI/ML, governance, and platform engineering.
- Understand and help coordinate work involving modern data architectures (e.g., lakehouse, data mesh/fabric, streaming pipelines, cloud-native platforms), even if not implementing them directly.
- Facilitate alignment between business/mission stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring architectural decisions are reflected in scope, schedule, risks, and dependencies.
- Track and manage milestones related to data platform buildout, pipeline development, schema and model evolution, and integration with analytics or AI use cases.
- Help operationalize architectural roadmaps by translating them into actionable delivery plans, phased releases, and incremental value milestones.
- Coordinate and schedule architecture reviews, design checkpoints, and governance approvals led by the Principal Data Solution Architect.
- Manage risks related to data complexity, platform dependencies, integration sequencing, security/compliance requirements, and cloud readiness.
- Ensure delivery plans account for non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, security, data quality, and compliance, as defined by architecture leadership.
- Support cross-team communication around data standards, architectural guardrails, and platform decisions, ensuring teams stay aligned during execution.
- Track progress and report status for data initiatives that span multiple tools and platforms (e.g., cloud services, data platforms, orchestration tools, analytics stacks).
- Help coordinate delivery of reusable frameworks, accelerators, and reference architectures that improve efficiency across programs.
- Partner with technical leadership to support client briefings, planning sessions, and executive updates for data modernization efforts.
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to obtain a U.S. government Public Trust Security Clearance
- 10+ years managing IT projects using agile methodologies and approaches
- 10+ year experience with Scrum/Kanban Methodologies
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, MIS or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to establish immediate credibility with clients, build consensus, and achieve goals through influence
- Ability to help teams write user stories/epics, identify dependencies, and design optimal solutions
- Flexibility to work with teams, individuals, and executives and willingness to help with a wide variety of work products and people
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills
- Local to the Washington, DC metro area
- Required to be onsite three times per week
Preferred
- Experience working in a studio / human centered design approach
- PMP certification
- Certified Scrum Master
