Duties

  • You will conduct short and long-term investigations of crimes to apprehend and arrest violators.
  • You will charge or convict a person of a violation in compliance with criminal law.
  • You will understand law enforcement instructions to protect the constitutional rights of suspects, witnesses, and victims.
  • You will write reports relating to criminal and civil security hazards, complaints, and witness statements for use in future legal proceedings and investigations.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You must qualify and maintain certification on the expandable baton and OC spray.
  • You are required to establish proficiency in police breath testing equipment and other specialized equipment.
  • Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to Gun Control Act, making it illegal for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to possess any firearm or ammunition.
  • Required to have successfully completed Basic Criminal Investigator's course at FLETC or Army MP School.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Incumbent must successfully pass an initial, annual or any required OPM, DOD, or Department of Navy mental and emotional stability screening, physical agility test, and physical fitness for duty test.
  • Required to successfully completed or must be completed within one-year of reporting onboard Army Military Police Investigator (MPI) School.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license. You will be required to obtain US Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting investigations into alleged or suspected violations of criminal laws and military regulations in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies; 2) Responding to crime scenes to collect and preserve evidence; 3) Preparing case records to include investigation findings and recommendations; and 4) Presenting evidence and/or testimony during legal proceedings.

Work is performed in various environments to include inside office spaces, outside, cramped spaces, automobiles, etc. Work is performed in various types of weather and exposure to the elements is common. Investigations often cannot be delayed pending improvement of weather conditions and investigations may be conducted even during inclement weather.
