Duties
As a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC WG-5803-10, you will repair, adjust, overhaul, performs major repairs, and maintenance on military and commercial designed heavy mobile equipment and special purpose vehicles. Inspect repair, overhaul and tests major systems including gasoline, diesel, electric powered hybrid, multi-fuel, turbine, and other types of internal combustion engines, which may be turbo-charged or blower assisted, automatic or manual transmissions, including those with power take offs, cross-drive transmissions, hydraulic, electric, pneumatic systems and controls, fluid pumping systems, turrets, winches and four wheel steering systems. Systematically analyze malfunctions and the cause of mechanical failure by means of visual and auditory checks, uses computer-controlled test equipment, engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters and pressure gauges in order to determine the exact nature of extent of repairs or adjustments necessary to complete work. Use specialized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot problems in complex state-of-the-art electric and electronic systems to identify and replace defective components such as computer control modules, sensors, solenoids, digitized components, and circuits. Develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines. Modify parts to fit, or improvises modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions. Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5 day workweek, then a 4 day workweek ( 8 nine-hour days and 1 eight-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80 hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements.
Telework: ELIGIBLE FOR SITUATIONAL TELEWORK ONLY, INCLUDING EMERGENCY AND PRESCRIBED "UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK"

Military Grades: E2 through E6
Desired Military Assignments: 2T3X1,2T3X7 or must be willing and able to cross train.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to make repairs or the ability to assist with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on heavy mobile vehicles, equipment and systems.
Physical Effort: Work is performed in tiring positions, at times, for extended periods of time, requiring frequent bending, reaching and crouching. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling and turning while positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Often lifts heavier items with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices such as jacks, hoists and forklifts.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Subject to a relatively constant climatic work environment while in the shop. Subject to temperature extremes such as rain, snow, and wet and icy areas, while working outside. There is exposure to irritations and discomfort from dust, grease, heat and fumes from working both inside and outside. Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, bruises and injuries from falls while positioning and moving equipment. Follows prescribed safety practices and use of safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard toed shoes, gloves and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn for long periods of time.
