Aerospace Engineer
Key Role:
Join the Booz Allen Space Environments Modeling and Simulation ( M & S ) Team. Support the space client by tackling the challenges of lunar dust contamination of spacecraft and other assets by modeling the complex interactions between dust particles, the space environment, and spacecraft. Develop and use advanced computational modeling tools and techniques. Join the team as they develop a comprehensive modeling and analysis framework for the client's Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility Program ( EHP ) to characterize the risks that lunar dust poses to the success of a permanent human presence on the moon. Be responsible for developing new M & S capabilities, model systems and environments of interest, and simulate physical pheno mena such as plasma interactions with spacecraft and dust.

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,900.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees. Basic Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience with M & S of physical pheno mena or systems
- Experience with rarefied gas dynamics, direct simulation Monte Carlo, space environments effects such as radiation transport, materials outgassing and contamination, and spacecraft charging
- Experience with data processing and statistical techniques
- Experience with CAD and 3D modeling sof tware such as SolidWorks and NX, meshing or finite element analysis sof tware such as Ansys, Thermal, and Desktop, and CFD tools such as STAR-CCM+, Loci-Chem, and Fun3D
- Experience developing sof tware to implement analytical and computational models
- Experience with programming in Fortran, Python, or C++
- Experience working with Linux environments and writing technical documentation
- Ability to work in both a team and independently, and take ownership of assigned tasks
- Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
- Master's degree in a Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, CS, or Applied Mathematics field
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience with modeling chemically reacting flows
- Experience applying machine learning ( ML ) to solving engineering problems and using modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
- Experience modeling Hall-effect th rus ters or other electric propulsion systems
- Experience producing original research
- Experience working with U.S. Government clients
- Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Secret clearance
- Doctorate degree in Engineering or a related field
