This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have performed the majority of the following duties under normal supervision: 1) Ensuring safety and housekeeping rules are followed, that equipment and utensils are properly used and maintained; 2) Cooking a variety of food items to include regular and special diet entrees for low fat and low sodium; and 3) Preparing all food in accordance with food safety guidelines, the production log and recipe cards.

This position requires shiftwork to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Shifts may be rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.

This position requires the incumbent to wear appropriate uniform, including a chef's coat, apron, and non-slip shoes and keep uniforms clean, stain/debris free, and odor free.
This position requires the incumbent to maintain fingernails at no longer than ¼ in length beyond the tip of the finger and must be clean and well groomed. The incumbent is allowed to wear conservative makeup and a plain smooth wedding band (if applicable). The incumbent is prohibited from wearing excessive false eyelashes, earrings, necklaces, and ornamental rings.
Physical Effort:
The duties require the incumbent to stand for extended periods of time and perform repetitive tasks, such as chopping, slicing, and stirring. The incumbent is required to lift and move heavy objects, such as pots, pans, and ingredients weighing up to 55 pounds.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a galley/kitchen area which is well lighted but are often hot and noisy. The incumbent is required to work near hot stoves, ovens, and other kitchen equipment exposing the incumbent to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezer units.
A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.

- You will train and lead the other cooks during their shift, providing guidance and instruction on food preparation and cooking techniques.
- You will fill out the production log, complete daily food safety inspections and checklists, train and lead the other cooks during their shift.
- You will work with the other cooks, setting the pace.
- You will pass onto workers; instructions received from the supervisor and starts work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual cooks.
