Overview
Abacus Technology is seeking a Cable Splicer to provide Outside Plant (OSP) cable infrastructure support for new installations, troubleshooting, upgrades and maintenance to ensure telecommunications at Aberdeen Proving Ground are fully operational. This is a full-time position.

Qualifications
5+ years experience in fiber optic maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of equipment and systems. HS diploma or GED. BICSI Tech (TE350) certification and OSHA Confined Space training or certification. Experience with requisite tools and test equipment to include fusion splicers. In-depth knowledge of OSP network drawings, route maps, interpreting fiber test results, fiber optic network infrastructure, engineering design, and construction. Must have strong communication skills. Able to lift and maneuver loads weighing 50lbs or more. Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be a US citizen and hold a current Secret clearance.
The hourly pay rate for this position is $47.82. Compensation for this position is governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiated and ratified by Abacus Technology and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO. In addition, Abacus Technology offers a benefits package that complies with the terms and requirements of the CBA.

Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and/or replace the existing cable plant.
- Provide fiber optic/copper cable fabrication.
- Support adds/moves/changes in response to service requests or work orders.
- Locate, repair, and/or replace splice cases.
- Perform troubleshooting to locate faulty splice cases and component assemblies.
- Provide design and maintenance support, which includes monitoring the security of cable runs, providing alternate routing for disaster recovery, with consideration of the location of local exchange carrier facilities and the physical terrain.
- Review engineered drawings, statements of work, and technical manuals to determine requirements for underground, buried, and aerial cable systems.
- Prepare and install distribution equipment and terminate/splice cables.
- Ensure cable installations are compliant with technical standards, specifications, and engineered directives.
- Document infrastructure by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
- Maintain network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; test network backup procedures; update documentation.
- Maintain safe work environment and conditions by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
- Perform maintenance on many different and varying types of cable and equipment with exposure to environmental conditions.
- Assist with repairing, securing, and replacing all cable-related defects within manholes.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support contract requirements.
- Attend training sessions as required (DoD, Information Assurance, Security, Corporate).
