Mechanical Drafter (Experienced with ASME Standards)

Mechanical Drafter / Engineering Drawing Checker (Configuration Management)

Location: Merrifield, VA | Federal / USPS Support

MBA Consulting Services, Inc. (MBA CSi) is hiring an experienced Mechanical Drafter / Engineering Drawing Checker to support the U.S. Postal Service Engineering Configuration Management organization. This role focuses on engineering drawing review, drawing checking, and technical data package (TDP) compliance within a manufacturing environment.

This position requires hands-on experience with CAD drafting, engineering documentation, ECN incorporation, and ASME drawing standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform engineering drawing review and drawing checking for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
• Verify proper incorporation of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
• Review and validate Technical Data Packages (TDPs) in accordance with SOW, industry, and military standards
• Ensure compliance with configuration management (CM) processes
• Support manufacturing drawings for complex electromechanical systems
• Apply strong engineering judgment while managing multiple drawing review tasks
• Provide technical guidance and quality oversight as needed

Required Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Associate's Technical Degree + 5+ years of experience
  
  (10+ years of relevant mechanical drafting and drawing checking experience may substitute for a degree)
• 5+ years of experience performing engineering drawing checking in a manufacturing environment
• 5+ years of CAD drafting experience with complex electromechanical or mechanical systems
• 6-8 years of total related experience
• Strong experience with engineering documentation, drawing revisions, and change control
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access

Standards & Technical Experience (Preferred)

• ASME Y14.5 (GD&T - Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
• ASME Y14.100 - Engineering Drawing Practices
• ASME Y14.24 - Types and Applications of Engineering Drawings
• ASME Y14.35 - Revision of Engineering Drawings
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-31000A (Technical Data Packages)

Software & Tools

• AutoCAD (2012 or newer)
• Autodesk Inventor (2012 or newer)
• Autodesk Design Review
• CAD software and BOM (Bill of Materials) structures

Additional Preferred Experience

• Sheet metal design and checking
• Manufacturing processes and tolerance analysis
• Configuration Management (CM) or CMII exposure
• GD&T Professional (GDTP) certification

Work Requirements

• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods
• Flexibility to work adjusted hours when required
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
