Job Description:
What is the primary mission of this role?
• We are seeking a skilled and motivated System Administrator to join our team supporting the SPY-6 Family of Radars.
• The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the IT systems that support this critical radar technology.
• This role requires expertise in networking, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and troubleshooting, as well as a strong commitment to ensuring system security and availability.
• This position also requires the ability to travel up to 25% of the time to support mission-critical operations.
What are the main functions of this role?
• Administer and maintain systems supporting the SPY-6 radar family, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
• Perform system troubleshooting and resolve hardware, software, and network issues as they arise.
• Conduct regular system monitoring, patch management, and performance tuning.
• Maintain and configure Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and troubleshoot radar system components.
• Implement and maintain system security measures in accordance with DoD standards and protocols.
• Support network configurations, including IP address management, VLAN configurations, and Layer 3 Switches management.
• Create and maintain documentation for system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
• Travel up to 25% of the time to domestic locations to support system installations, maintenance, and operational needs.
Required Skill Sets:
• Active Top-Secret Clearance is required.
• IAT Level I Certification or Higher (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, CCNA, Security+, etc.)
• Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, routing protocols, and troubleshooting (e.g., OSPF, BGP, DNS, VLANs).
• Experience diagnosing and resolving complex system and network issues.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time, as required.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
Desired Skill Sets:
• Experience working in a Department of Defense (DoD) or military environment.
• Familiarity with radar systems or other defense-related technologies.
• Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).
• Experience with configuring and managing firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
• Experience with PowerShell, Bash and/or Python scripting
• Familiarity with version control and collaboration tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, ClearCase)
Years of Experience Required (if any):
• Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in system administration and networking support.
Education Level Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
How will the contractor's success be measured?
• Contractor works independently with minimal reach back support on daily tasking
• Contractor knows when more complicated issues require SME intervention
• Supporting team to accomplish test criteria and ensure hardware works during test events
• Support team and hardware during capability development/testing
• Working well in a high stress dynamic team environment
Culture
• The contractor will be part of a small waterfront or land base test site (LBTS) team, where they will work collaboratively with RTX team members to achieve the daily and weekly tasking. In most cases, this person will be the primary person with the sys admin/networking skillset and will be filling this key role at the location.
• Work at Wallops Island, VA (a land-based test site – LBTS) can be up to 60 hours a week, usually Monday – Saturday.
• Work at Pascagoula, MS (an industrial shipyard) can be up to 60 hours a week, usually Monday – Friday. This work schedule can be highly dynamic due to dependencies on ship construction. Additionally, work is cyclical based on ship construction timelines, which can range from 14 months to 24 months.
• Work at Newport News, VA (an industrial shipyard) can be up to 60 hours a week, usually Monday – Friday. This work schedule can be highly dynamic due to dependencies on ship construction. Additionally, work is cyclical based on ship construction timelines, which can range from 14 months to 24 months.
