Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Data Architect providing support to the Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management Division (C3BM), which is located at Hanscom AFB, MA.

Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (C3BM) has been tasked with delivering an integrated Department of the Air Force (DAF) Battle Network providing resilient decision advantage and enabling the USAF, USSF, Joint, and Coalition Force to win against the pacing challenge. C3BM supports execution in many different focus areas. C3BM's main efforts are Architecture and Systems Engineering (ASE), Operational Response Team (ORT), and multiple mission integration teams such as Air, Maritime and multiple acquisitions consisting of both the Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) and Space.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:
  • Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Top Secret Level Clearance with current SCI eligibility
  • Citizenship : Must be a US citizen

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS :
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a related field
  • Years of experience: 20+ years of experience with 12+ years of experience in the DoD
  • Familiarity with cloud-based systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps, and DevOps principles.
  • Familiarity with intelligence data.
  • Knowledge of data file formats including XML and JSON.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity related to data, servers, and cloud-based systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Data Architect will provide Interoperability and Data support to assist Government Interoperability Engineers in achieving data consistency, reliability, and interoperability throughout the Mission Planning process. They will also provide development, maintenance, and revision of data packages and database solutions supporting Government Program Office requirements and special interest programs designated by the Milestone Decision Authority (MDA).
  • Mission Planning Data Architecture & Interoperability
    • Design a new Mission Planning Order of Battle (MPOB) Lower Half schema for Electronic Warfare (EW), addressing misalignment between current communications data structures and the Modernized Integrated Database (MIDB).
    • Restart and participate in technical meetings at the TS level with NASIC (Wright-Patterson AFB), NGIC (Charlottesville, VA), and classified CCMD systems to ensure availability of data producers capable of supporting MPOB Lower Half requirements.
    • Provide recommendations for incorporating new data from the Machine-assisted Analytic Rapid-repository System (MARS) and other classified sources into MPOB Upper Half, Lower Half, and other mission planning data formats.
    • Serve as a senior integration analyst for the Mission Planning Interface Control Working Group (MP-ICWG), supporting new requirements and schema updates to enable interoperability with external data providers.
    • Support interoperability for mission planning data formats including:
      • Mission Planning Order of Battle (MPOB)
      • Aircraft Tasking Data Format (ACTDF)
      • Electronic Warfare (EW)
      • Mission Planning Parametrics (MPP)
      • Common Route Definition (CRD)
  • Interface Control & Data Governance
    • Complete tasks resulting from ICWG Action Items, coordinating with data providers, users, and owners to ensure reliability and consistency of warfighter data.
    • Enable data schemas by incorporating the latest DoD IT Standards Registry requirements, including Intelligence Community Information Security Markings (IC-ISM).
    • Support and update schemas including Appendix L, Task, Target, Text (T3D), and ACTDF.
    • Assist in creation of new Appendix L sample data files and populate them with ELNOT/DIEQP data assigned to sample jammer files for testing, requiring domain expertise and use of unclassified data.
  • Mission Planning Systems & Modernization
    • Produce recommended designs and provide advice to the 35 IS for enhancements to the Bedrock Order of Battle Portal, including:
      • No Strike List (NSL) additions
      • Incorporation of SMAC requirements
      • Theater-level, tactical-level, and dynamic Order of Battle data
      • New features and capabilities driven by real-world events
    • Serve as technical advisor and primary point of contact on DIA's MARS application, replacing MIDB, requiring in-depth knowledge of MIDB interfaces and DIA intelligence capabilities.
    • Design architectures and provide guidance for decomposing mission planning applications into containerized microservices in cloud environments.
    • Advise on cloud capabilities and API implementations for Joint Mission Planning Systems (JMPS), Joint Open Mission Systems (JOMS), and Next-generation Open Mission Services (NOMS).
  • Security, Accreditation & Analytics
    • Provide recommendations on security controls for applications undergoing Assessment and Authorization (A&A) for operation on classified networks, including JWICS.
    • Produce recommended designs for new mission planning data visualizations.
    • Advise on data analytics related to producer activity, data health and currency, data quality control, and data consumption.
    • Serve as advisor on intelligence community and geospatial capabilities supporting mission planning.
  • Operational Integration & Automation
    • Provide recommendations for data production augmentation, delegation, SOPs, and production management in response to real-world crises.
    • Provide inputs related to USAF command and control processes and their integration with mission planning, including dynamic planning and replanning.
    • Advise on solutions for emerging mission planning data integration challenges.
    • Serve as technical expert for external data provider automation supporting the Mission Planning Software and Data Unified Service (SADUS), enabling automated data ingestion into the Mission Planning Cloud.
    • Advise and assist in development of Information Support Plans (ISPs) and architectural documentation required for JOMS and NOMS to satisfy Joint Interoperability Test Command requirements.
    • Complete ICWG action items in coordination with data providers, users, and owners to ensure data reliability and consistency for the warfighter.
