- You will utilize knowledge of chemical principles, theories, practices and methodology sufficient to perform the full range of duties involved in the chemical and physical analysis and testing of various substances.
- You will provide information pertinent to a variety of programs and problems involving chemical analysis for which established methods are not substantially applicable, inconclusive, greatly variable, and sometimes unrelated.
- You will analyze materials that are problematic or where conventional methods and method adjustments have produced inconclusive or contradictory results.
- You will adapt and develop new approaches and methods involving emergent environmental chemistry problems, hazardous materials or identification of unknown materials found in various ship's systems.
- You will research literature and technical journals for state-of-the art equipment that will either expand laboratory capabilities or result in cost savings.
- You will validate that modified or new procedures produce reliable results that meet regulatory/accreditation requirements.
- You will plan, coordinate, direct, schedule, and implement tests and conduct projects.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

- Successful completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
