Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector is seeking a Principal Engineer Software to support the Global Surveillance Division supporting the team of qualified, diverse individuals. The program technologies include the full software lifecycle and advanced missions support in tactical applications for the warfighter. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida .

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

Contingency: Position is contingent upon ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret Clearance, can start with interim

Essential Functions:
  • Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
  • Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software
  • Determines computer uses needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input a acquisition, programming techniques and control
  • Designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems
  • Ensures software standards are met
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance as well as Program Special Access within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5+ years of experience in software engineering OR Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 3+ years of experience in software engineering
  • Experience developing software/writing code in C/C++ OR Java
  • Experience developing lab simulation software
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance "Interim DoD Top Secret clearance required to start" within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in object-oriented analysis and design
  • Experience with integrating software and hardware
  • Experience with Open Mission Systems (OMS) architecture and standards
  • Experience developing software with Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Experience with Agile software development and Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket, Bamboo, Fisheye, etc)
  • Experience with Cameo modeling for software design
  • Experience with developing lab simulation software.
  • An active, In-scope DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance with SCI

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
