Duties

  • You will analyze local conditions and fire prevention or protection programs to verify a fire department meets operational conditions.
  • You will perform pre-fire layout inspections of structures to locate potential fire hazards and identify fire protection systems.
  • You will develop and conduct training courses for military personnel.
  • You will advise on acceptable design of code deficiencies (e.g., facilities layouts, design, construction, building contents, location of fire protection systems, fire alarm system operations, fire suppression systems operations).

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Completion of the Emergency Operator Vehicles Course (EVOC) is required.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast and depth.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Position requires incumbent to participate in respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.

Qualifications

***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter II, Inspector II, Fire Instructor I, Driver/Operator-Pumper, HAZMAT Operations and Awareness, and NR EMT. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFAC, or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.***

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting periodic fire protection inspections on installation; 2) Providing fire prevention and protection training to various groups of people on the installation; 3) Identifying fire hazards and safety deficiencies; 4) Maintaining fire prevention/protection systems; and 5) Ensuring building codes are in compliance with federal, state, and local fire protection/prevention ordinances, regulations, and policies.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
