Great Hill is seeking a Solutions Architect.

The Solutions Architect serves as a senior technical leader within the Enterprise Architecture Team, responsible for designing end-to-end technology solutions that align with enterprise standards, business strategies, and modernization goals. This role provides architectural guidance, develops technical roadmaps, evaluates emerging technologies, and ensures that systems integrate seamlessly into USDA's enterprise ecosystem. The ideal candidate has deep experience in enterprise platforms, integration patterns, cloud services, and architectural governance frameworks.
Responsibilities
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical solution architectures that support enterprise business needs and technology strategies.
  • Evaluate current systems, platforms, and services to identify architecture gaps, modernization opportunities, and technical risks.
  • Lead development of architecture artifacts including system diagrams, capability models, interface specifications, and integration patterns.
  • Support system modernization efforts by defining target-state architectures, implementation roadmaps, and transition strategies.
  • Review functional and non-functional requirements and translate them into scalable, secure, and effective technical designs.
  • Facilitate architecture review board sessions, guiding stakeholders through design decisions and ensuring adherence to enterprise standards.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, cybersecurity teams, and program leadership to ensure solutions meet mission objectives.
  • Maintain architectural repositories and documentation, ensuring traceability, clarity, and compliance with governance processes.
  • Design integrations between enterprise systems using APIs, middleware, and cloud-native services.
  • Provide SME support for acquisition documentation, technical evaluations, and alternatives analysis when required.
  • Support EA dashboards, analytics, and reporting to communicate architectural insights to leadership.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems architecture, enterprise architecture, or solution design roles.
  • Strong background in architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, FEAF, DoDAF, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience designing cloud, hybrid, and on-prem solutions (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Proficiency with integration technologies, APIs, microservices, and enterprise middleware.
  • Experience using architecture modeling tools (iServer, EAVE, Sparx EA, or similar).
  • Ability to create high-quality architecture diagrams and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to guide stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Experience participating in governance processes, design reviews, and compliance assessments.
Preferred Experience
  • TOGAF or similar enterprise architecture certification.
  • Experience supporting federal IT governance, CPIC, or technology investment processes.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, USDA AgMAX, and large-scale modernization initiatives.
