Position Description

The Staff MMIC Design Engineer position supports Northrop Grumman's Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) product development. You will be joining a design team generating products for commercial markets using Northrop Grumman's internal foundry capabilities.

We are looking for a circuit designer responsible for the development of innovative, leading-edge RF products. This will involve designing products using a mix of III-V technologies. The position will use design tools such as Keysight ADS and EM simulators such as Momentum and HFSS. The designer must have good communication and presentation skills.

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience with design, layout, test, and troubleshooting of RF/microwave circuits. Candidates will need to work in a collaborative environment and work with teammates to accomplish common goals. Design technologies will include GaAs, GaN, and InP.

This position will require an individual who is comfortable with working in a small team environment with a significant amount of autonomy and accountability, covering the full life cycle of projects from inception through production. Given the small team environment, a willingness to assume multiple roles and responsibilities is required, supporting RF design, device modelling, mechanical design, design for manufacturability, and business development. The ability to be hands-on, to work through others, to engage in leadership, and assist in customer development is emphasized.

  • US citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Demonstrated ability to develop product designs independently, and verify those designs through prototype fabrication and testing
  • Design and simulation experience with a proven record of successful tape-outs
  • Microwave engineering background; understanding of s-parameters and impedance matching techniques.
  • 2D and 3D Electromagnetic modeling background with commercial tools such as ANSYS, Momentum, Sonnet, etc.
  • Experience debugging and validating simulations in the above tools.
  • An understanding of HEMT device modelling
  • An understanding of calibration techniques
