Job Overview:
The Network Engineer SME will serve as a subject matter expert in network architecture and operations. Responsibilities include designing secure network solutions, supporting SD-WAN migration, implementing cloud-native networking, and working within a DevSecOps framework to automate infrastructure. The role requires strong technical leadership and hands-on experience with enterprise networking technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement secure network solutions for enterprise connectivity.
Plan and execute SD-WAN transformation (Dell Versa preferred).
Develop underlay/overlay WAN designs supporting performance and security.
Integrate wired/wireless access solutions and capacity planning.
Conduct feasibility studies, pilot projects, and migration plans.
Support IP addressing schemes across IPv4/IPv6 networks.
Collaborate with information assurance teams for DoD compliance.
Document network designs using tools like Visio or Cameo.
Troubleshoot complex network issues and conduct site surveys.
Must-Have Skills:
BS degree + 8 years of experience.
Active Top Secret clearance.
DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE).
Broad networking knowledge: LAN/WAN, TCP/UDP, IPv4/IPv6, IPSec, VPN, firewalls, micro-segmentation.
Experience with two or more vendor technologies: Cisco, Juniper, F5, Aruba, Palo Alto, Dell, Brocade, Fortinet.
SD-WAN experience (Dell Versa preferred).
Cloud networking experience (Azure, AWS).
Automation tools: Ansible, Python scripting, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines.
Storage technologies: VSAN, Veeam, cloud storage.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
AAA servers (Cisco ISE, Aruba ClearPass).
Enterprise wireless experience.
Familiarity with Type 1 encryptors and CSfC.
Experience with migration planning and technology refresh.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Certifications:
IAT Level II (Security+ CE or equivalent)
MUST HAVE: CCNP certification
