Job Description
We are currently seeking a proactive and motivated database administrator. The candidate must have experience providing day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades of Oracle on Windows/Linux, preferably in a Federal Government environment. All Oracle work is primarily on windows with some Linux. The position requires: a positive customer focused personality, creative problem-solving skills, high technical aptitude, highly detailed and organized, the ability to multitask, and strong communication skills. The database administrator will utilize practical knowledge of the organization’s databases, interconnected systems, relevant applications, regulations, and best practices to deliver mission success.
Responsibilities
-Oracle database administration, day-to-day operations, security, troubleshooting, customer service
-Operational maintenance and availability: Perform high-level, day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and uptime management for complex database management systems, workstations, and servers across multiple operating systems to ensure continuous service availability.
-Installation, upgrades, and patch management: Coordinate, schedule, and perform complex database software installations, upgrades, updates, and patches in accordance with established IT policies and procedures, minimizing downtime and service disruption.
-Performance monitoring and tuning: Continually monitor and tune multiple database systems and instances to achieve and sustain optimal performance levels, using metrics-driven analysis and proactive adjustments.
-Data integrity, recoverability, and backup operations: Ensure data integrity and recoverability by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate solutions; develop and maintain backup and archive schedules and procedures to support rapid restoration.
-Security management and auditing: Monitor database security concerns, implement security best practices, conduct security audits and peer reviews, and remediate vulnerabilities to maintain a secure data environment.
-Incident escalation and support ownership: Serve as the escalation point for database-related incidents, remove blockers, coordinate responses, and engage higher-level contacts as needed to resolve issues promptly.
-Problem analysis and technical solutions: Analyze problems from raw information, synthesize findings, and provide well-reasoned technical solutions for issues of moderate scope and complexity, communicating results appropriately to varied audiences.
-Project planning and delivery: With IT Site contract lead or team lead support - assess, plan, assign or execute, monitor, and deliver database-related projects and milestones assigned by IT Site contract lead or team lead, ensuring timely completion and quality outcomes.
-Standards, policies, and configuration governance: Develop, implement, and promote standards, policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures for database administration; conduct audits to ensure compliance with configuration guidelines.
-Modernization and architecture contributions: Plan and implement modernization initiatives for database implementations and contribute to design decisions in collaboration with systems administrators, database engineers, and software developers.
-Documentation and knowledge management: Create and maintain clear, up-to-date documentation and knowledge artifacts for database administration processes, configurations, runbooks, and operational procedures.
-Development and analytics support: Supports development teams and data analysts with troubleshooting, schema and table design, SQL query optimization, data troubleshooting, and implementation guidance to enable efficient application delivery.
-Oversight of Work: Works under general direction on routine work. May receive detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. Follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
Qualifications:
-Must have a minimum of 6 years of related experience as a database administrator, specializing in Oracle databases on Windows.
-Strong understanding, execution, and monitoring of Oracle database security practices
-PL/SQL programming and/or troubleshooting is desirable
-MS-SQL and MySQL is nice to have
-Must be able to work five days per week (M-F), eight hours per day.
-Must be able to pass a background investigation and gain a Public Trust Determination.
