The Next-Generation GEO (NGG) program is seeking a senior-level Data Architect to anchor the Operations & Sustainment (O&S) team's data-centric environment. You will be the principal steward of the NGG ground-segment data architecture-designing, implementing, and sustaining the high-availability, secure, and performant data platforms that underpin the NICC and all operational-enclave systems. The role includes both day-staff duties and 24/7 on-call coverage to ensure uninterrupted data services.
Core Responsibilities:
Data Architecture & Design
- Define logical and physical data models for telemetry, command-and-control, and ancillary-system datasets.
- Design scalable storage (relational, NoSQL, time-series, object) and processing pipelines (ETL/ELT, streaming, batch) that meet real-time mission requirements.
- Establish data-flow diagrams, reference architectures, and integration patterns for NGG ground-segment and partner interfaces.
Platform & Service Management
- Deploy, configure, and maintain the data platform stack
- Monitor system health, balance workloads, and perform capacity planning to guarantee >99.9 % availability.
- Keep asset-management records, configuration baselines, and system documentation current and auditable.
Data Integration & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve data-pipeline failures, schema mismatches, and performance bottlenecks.
- Produce detailed Discrepancy Reports and work with DR processing boards to close out data-related fixes.
Cross-Program Collaboration
- Partner with NGG Factory, SBIRS CRGS, CONUS/OCONUS RGS, Mission Processing, RTS, SCN, and other external teams to coordinate data-exchange interfaces and resolve cross-program outages.
- Actively contribute to Ground Anomaly Working Groups (GAWG), Satellite Anomaly Working Groups (SAWG), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), and system-integration boards.
Security, Governance & Compliance
- Define and enforce data-access policies, encryption standards, and privilege-management controls.
- Track software and data-platform licenses; initiate emergency patch requests and oversee deployment.
Performance & Reliability Engineering
- Develop and test backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery procedures; validate them in regular drills.
Process & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to requirements-specification drafts, design reviews, and trade-studies that affect data architecture.
- Recommend operational or engineering enhancements that increase data-throughput, reduce latency, or lower cost.
- Develop and enforce policies for computing-resource allocation, data-retention, and archiving.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead a small team of junior system administrators / network engineers, providing technical direction, performance feedback, and career development.
- Drive continuous-improvement initiatives across the O&S data environment.
- Coordinate training sessions, knowledge-transfer activities, and on-boarding for 24/7 operational

• Self starter, highly organized, capable of working with limited supervision while maintaining strong teamwork

• Experience with operational certifications or similar credentials is a plus

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $145,200 - $255,990. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
