NexTech Solutions (NTS) is a team of experts and engineers who understand the challenges that organizations face in finding and implementing the best technologies and IT solutions to meet mission requirements. We work with our government customers in defense and civilian agencies to identify new technologies.

The Opportunity

The Senior Systems Engineer will lead the design, integration, test, and validation of complex multi-sensor, RF, C-UAS, and satellite-ground mission systems in support of defense, intelligence, and federal security programs. Operating remotely, this position drives full-lifecycle systems engineering activities-from requirements development and MBSE architecture to integration, verification, and operational deployment. The engineer will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across government sponsors, vendors, and internal engineering groups to ensure mission-critical capabilities are delivered on time, fully tested, and operationally effective.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Architecture, Requirements & MBSE

  • Develop, manage, and validate system, subsystem, and interface requirements across complex mission systems.
  • Build and maintain MBSE (SysML) architectures, sequence diagrams, and interface models using tools such as MagicDraw.
  • Ensure full requirements traceability across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Support and lead technical baseline management and milestone reviews (SRR ? CDR).

Sensor, RF, and C-UAS Integration
  • Architect and integrate EO/IR, LWIR, radar, RF geolocation, and sensor-fusion systems within C-UAS and satellite-ground environments.
  • Integrate containerized analytic applications and ML-enabled detection algorithms.
  • Conduct RF analysis, link budget modeling, and MIL-STD compliance assessments

Test & Evaluation (T&E)
  • Develop T&E Master Plans (TEMP), integration test procedures, verification matrices, and field test strategies.
  • Lead lab and field integration events, including hardware-in-the-loop tests and system interoperability activities.
  • Support site readiness, pre-deployment testing, FAT/SAT, and operational acceptance events

Deployment, Sustainment & Operations
  • Support remote site deployment planning, configuration control, and system stand-up activities.
  • Troubleshoot system performance issues, optimize test benches, and streamline integration workflows.
  • Coordinate with field engineers to maintain system reliability and sensor availability.

Project, Stakeholder & Risk Management
  • Engage with government sponsors, technical authorities, and industry partners to communicate design progress, risks, and system performance.
  • Lead technical briefings, design reviews, engineering analyses, and decision-support reports.
  • Mentor junior engineers to strengthen organizational systems capabilities.

Range Analysis & Technology Road mapping
  • Conduct site survey at the Petawawa range to assess terrain, environmental constraints, infrastructure, and suitability for multi-sensor or RF-based test operations.
  • Analyze comparable ranges to evaluate operational capabilities, available technologies, and performance metrics; provide a comparative analysis identifying the optimal technologies required to establish a baseline range configuration.
  • Develop a technology implementation roadmap outlining phased deployment of range infrastructure, sensor technologies, C-UAS components, instrumentation, and data-collection systems to achieve full operational capability.
