The Company
Our client is a rapidly growing startup defense company that brings a new and innovative approach to the development and production of defense systems. They focus on short, iterative design cycles, with rapid developmental testing and modern commercial manufacturing strategies for production at scale.
The Job
Our client is seeking a multidisciplinary Industrial Engineer / Drafter to lead the design, analysis, and optimization of our client’s workspaces, factory layouts, and site enhancements. This hybrid role combines technical drafting and design with industrial engineering principles to improve operational efficiency, ergonomics, and workflow. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams -- including Production, Facilities, and Engineering to create data-driven, scalable, and safe site and workspace solutions.
Functions
Design & Drafting:
• Develop and maintain detailed CAD drawings, 2D/3D models, and documentation for factory layouts, workstations, and site plans.
• Translate operational requirements into efficient and compliant site designs that support productivity, safety, and ergonomics.
• Design new and modified layouts to support equipment integration, process flow improvements, and facility expansions.
• Conduct site visits to gather measurements, assess feasibility, and verify implementation accuracy.
• Ensure all designs adhere to building codes, safety standards, and company specifications.
• Maintain organized design files, revision histories, and technical documentation.
Industrial Engineering & Process Optimization:
• Analyze production workflows, material handling systems, and spatial utilization to identify and eliminate waste.
• Use Lean, Six Sigma, or time and motion analysis techniques to improve productivity and space efficiency.
• Collaborate with operations and manufacturing teams to develop optimized layouts, process maps, and line balancing studies.
• Support capacity planning, equipment placement, and future scalability of production systems.
• Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives for workspace design and process efficiency.
• Contribute to cost reduction, throughput improvement, and ergonomic optimization projects.
• Support facility changes and infrastructure upgrades through data-driven design recommendations.
Collaboration & Implementation:
• Partner with cross-functional teams -- including Maintenance, Safety, Facilities, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure alignment between design intent and operational goals.
• Provide technical input during construction, installation, or reconfiguration of production and site layouts.
Qualifications
• Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Drafting & Design Technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of combined experience in industrial engineering, site/facility layout, or drafting/design, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent drafting/design software.
• Experience with 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks, SketchUp, or similar.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing workflows, ergonomics, and material flow design.
• Ability to interpret architectural, mechanical, and process drawings.
• Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and safety regulations.
• Experience using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or process improvement methodologies.
• Familiarity with simulation or optimization tools (e.g., FlexSim, Arena, or Plant Simulation) is a plus.
Preferred Skills
• Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher).
• Experience in factory layout design, automation integration, or industrial facility planning.
• Knowledge of sustainability and energy-efficient design principles for industrial facilities.
