Position Title: Network Specialist II
Location: Aberdeen, Maryland.
Employment: Full-Time (MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN).
Required Education and Experience:
High School / GED AND ≥ 7 years
Associates directly related field AND ≥ 5 years
Bachelors in directly related field AND ≥ 3 years
Masters in directly related field AND ≥ 1 year

Scope:
As part of the on-site infrastructure support team, the ideal candidate will provide comprehensive technical support for fiber optic cables (both indoors and outdoors) and copper cables for telecommunication projects at the Aberdeen Test Center (ATC). The main team responsibilities will be as such: ensuring the successful execution of projects and adherence to ATC technical standards.
The Network Specialist II role focuses on providing design input, implementing, maintaining, and supporting the organization's network infrastructure. The ideal candidate will work both independently and collaboratively with other IT team members, ensuring stability, security, and high-performance of our network environment.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
• Providing guidance and assistance in all aspects of fiber optic cable projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Maintaining and installing network hardware, including routers, access switches, distribution switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, wireless access points, and other data center equipment.
• Assisting with conducting feasibility studies, project investigations, analyzing, and performing corrective measures to prevent or minimize network interruptions, equipment failures, and other infrastructural problems.
• Helping with the implementation of better technical approaches for user experience during equipment migrations or replacement.
• Maintaining, documenting accurate records of weekly assignments, including splice diagrams, test results, and any issues encountered during the project.
• Setting up splice cases according to project specifications, ensuring proper alignment, and secure housing for fiber optic connections.
• Performing splicing and fusion of fiber optic cables using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Ensuring high-quality connections with minimal loss, conducting thorough testing of spliced fiber optic cables utilizing appropriate testing equipment, verifying signal integrity, loss, and overall performance.
• Performing termination and testing of all network copper cables (CAT5/CAT6) in and outdoors.
• Participating in designing and planning future network infrastructure projects, including capacity planning, network segmentation, and security hardening.
• Must be able to utilize a bucket truck for aerial fiber and installation of wireless access points.
• Able to utilize the Cap Span fiber optic cable puller for all fiber cable installation.
Qualifications - External
Minimum Qualifications:
• Basic understanding of network cables, connectors, and equipment such as splicing equipment, link runner, switches, and routers etc.
• Must be able to use basic installation tools
• Able to lift, up to 50 pounds when necessary.
• Basic networking experience; local or enterprise level
• A driver’s license with good driving records.
• Able to follow written and verbal directions.
• Meet years of experience and educational specifications.
• Ability to adhere to government policies and requirements.
• Possess a Secret clearance; Ability to obtain/maintain Top Secret clearance as needed
