As the ORBIS AUKUS Test Engineering Lead, you will be the ORBIS expert in assisting our client to develop nuclear engineering capabilities to support the successful transition to SSN sustainment through the Optimal Pathway Milestones of the AUKUS program. These programs will initially support the Submarine Rotational Force - West (SRF-W) operational framework at HMAS Stirling to sustain Virginia Class Submarines. The program will then expand to depot level maintenance in West Australia. In parallel this position will also support ASC (and Australia's) transition to Sovereign Ready and Depot Level Maintenance. - Support the design of the Test Engineering organization to provide minimum viable capability at Initial Operating Support (IOS) and full capability at Full Operating Support (FOS), in accordance with US Navy best practices,
- Support the planning for meaningful work supporting returning Code 2340 ASC IMS, in accordance with NAVSEA 0989-028-5000 Manual for the Control of Testing and Plant Conditions, the Manual for Control of Testing and Ship's Conditions, and the ITPAM.
- Support our client's plan to qualify an individual as a Nuclear Shift Test Engineer on the S9G reactor plant, by converting his extant Nuclear Engineer Officer qualification on the S9G reactor plant, within the next twelve months,
- Devise a plan and liaise with the assigned US lead shipyard via NSSG, ASA, and AUKUS I&A to use S9G qualified ASC STEs in the NAVSEA 08D corporate resource plan for testers,
- Advise ASC on involvement in future Test Manager annual meetings in the US at various sites,
- Assist in the development of a upskilling and cross-skilling plan for ASC talent to be used on the UK SSN platform, building readiness for UK SSNs at HMAS Stirling,
- Advise by providing input to the infrastructure requirements regarding S9G reactor plant requirements in intermediate and depot level maintenance where ASC will be the Fleet Maintenance Activity (FMA)
- Support the planning for the Reactor Plant Technical Branch development in the Nuclear Emergency Response Organization (NERO),
- Support the transition planning for ASC regarding Nuclear Test Engineering Capability into Depot Level Maintenance (DLM) at Henderson Naval Precinct whilst maintaining an enduring FMA capability at HMAS Stirling,
- Assist planning the development of an organic and enduring sovereign Nuclear STE initial training, initial qualification, and maintenance of qualification program that is not dependent upon US Naval Shipyard support
- Required Skills and Experiences:
- Motivated self-starter with a willingness to take on a challenge th at is loosely defined, yet critical to maintaining allied maritime superiority.
- Direct nuclear submarine sustainment experience at both the I and D level, with at least 10 years of experience in related nuclear engineering positions.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills are mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities under a tight timeline within a fixed budget.
- Strong fact-finding, problem-solving, and decision-making skills supported by a willingness to accept authority and accountability for program success.
- Working knowledge of SSN sustainment (O/I/D level maintenance), with shipyard or submarine tender maintenance experience a plus.
- Proficiency in MS 365 applications
- Must be able to qualify for a work visa and be able to travel for up to 30% of the time.

- BS Degree in an Engineering or Physical Science Field or equivalent experience.
- 10 years' experience in SSN Sustainment nuclear test engineering, with proven success working with or for NAVSEA 08
