ECS is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to support mission-critical federal programs by architecting and maintaining secure, scalable data platforms that enable authorized access to high-quality data across agencies and program environments. This role ensures data is processed, stored, and shared in accordance with federal security, governance, and compliance requirements. The engineer partners with government customers, program leads, cybersecurity, and analytics teams to deliver resilient data solutions that enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and public service outcomes.

ECS is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to support mission-critical federal programs by architecting and maintaining secure, scalable data platforms that enable authorized access to high-quality data across agencies and program environments. This role ensures data is processed, stored, and shared in accordance with federal security, governance, and compliance requirements. The engineer partners with government customers, program leads, cybersecurity, and analytics teams to deliver resilient data solutions that enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and public service outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain data platforms and pipelines supporting federal workloads across cloud and on-premises environments (hybrid/multi-cloud).
- Lead modernization efforts including cloud migration, automation of legacy data processes, and adoption of secure, scalable architectures.
- Ensure platform compliance with federal standards, including:
- FedRAMP, FISMA/NIST RMF, Zero Trust principles, Authority to Operate (ATO) requirements
- Data governance and protection directives (e.g., privacy, role-based access, audit trails)
- Implement strong DevSecOps practices, enabling continuous delivery, monitoring, and operational resilience.
- Optimize data storage and compute resources to maximize mission value and cost-efficiency.
- Integrate data sources across agencies while supporting data transparency and reuse in alignment with FITARA and the Federal Data Strategy.
- Support incident response, system hardening, and continuous security monitoring efforts.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation to meet government reporting standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate across multidisciplinary federal delivery teams.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements aligned with mission objectives and federal IT priorities.

Required Skills
- U.S. Citizen
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in data platform or data engineering roles
- Active or ability to obtain DHS Public Trust
- Bachelor's Degree (IT Discipline preferred)
- Cloud platforms authorized for federal use (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, GCP Assured Workloads)
- Distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Databricks)
- Data orchestration and workflow automation (e.g., Airflow, Azure Data Factory, Step Functions)
- Data lake/warehouse technologies (Snowflake, Redshift, Synapse, BigQuery, Delta Lake)
- Advanced SQL and proficiency in Python, and/or Scala.
- Experience designing for Zero Trust data architectures and implementing encryption, IAM policies, and audit logging.
- Strong understanding of federal data policies, metadata standards, and cross-domain security considerations.
- Experience building CICD pipelines and using Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Knowledge of streaming/event-driven architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub).
- Ability to interface directly with federal stakeholders and translate mission needs into technical solutions.
