As part of the EASS eCMS program supporting modernization and sustainment of VA acquisition systems, the Senior Systems Engineer configures, maintains, troubleshoots, and optimizes enterprise system environments to ensure stability, availability, security, and performance. This role works across system, network, integration, and application layers to support modernization, automation, and end-to-end environment readiness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot system environments across development, test, staging, and production tiers.

• Analyze and resolve system-level issues involving servers, integrations, network dependencies, and application interactions.

• Document environment configurations, dependencies, procedures, and standard operating practices.

• Monitor system performance, capacity, reliability, and availability; recommend improvements.

• Support planning and coordination of patches, upgrades, deployments, and maintenance windows.

• Partner with development, DevSecOps, database, and infrastructure teams to resolve multi-layer technical issues.

• Validate system readiness before releases and support post-release monitoring.

• Participate in root cause analysis activities and implement corrective actions.

• Identify opportunities to automate manual operations and improve environment consistency.

• Support security teams through configuration management and compliance alignment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Minimum of eight (8) years of systems engineering, system administration, or infrastructure operations experience.

• Strong understanding of multi-tier application environments and system interactions.

• Experience diagnosing performance issues, analyzing logs, and identifying root causes.

• Strong documentation and troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams.

• Understanding of environment alignment, configuration control, and release coordination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

• Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs.

• Experience with virtualization, automation tools, cloud operations, or modernization initiatives.

• Familiarity with monitoring tools, dashboards, and alerting frameworks.

• Understanding of environment management processes and technical governance.

• Experience working in environments built on Azure, .NET, SQL Server, IIS, and related VA enterprise technologies.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

CLEARANCE:

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

WORK LOCATION:

• Remote
