As part of the EASS eCMS program supporting modernization and sustainment of VA acquisition systems, the Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, tests, and maintains enterprise software applications that support mission-critical workflows and modernization initiatives. This role contributes to architecture discussions, develops high-quality code, supports automated testing, and partners with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design and develop software components using .NET, ASP.NET MVC, WebAPI, and related frameworks.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to system design decisions.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code following established standards.
• Conduct peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Develop and execute unit tests and support integration and regression testing.
• Troubleshoot application issues, analyze logs, identify root causes, and support resolution.
• Support API development, data access components, and integration workflows.
• Maintain technical documentation including design decisions and logic explanations.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to iterative delivery.
• Improve development practices and support engineering excellence across teams.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Minimum of seven (7) years in software engineering or enterprise application development.
• Strong proficiency with .NET technologies including ASP.NET MVC, WebAPI, .NET Framework, and .NET Core.
• Experience with UI frameworks and enterprise frontend technologies.
• Experience developing unit tests and participating in structured QA cycles.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical teams.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
• Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Experience supporting modernization or refactoring initiatives.
• Familiarity with CI/CD automation, code quality scanning, or testing frameworks.
• Understanding of performance tuning and optimization of application components.
• Experience working in environments built on Azure, .NET, SQL Server, IIS, and related VA enterprise technologies.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
CLEARANCE:
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
WORK LOCATION:
• Remote
