Jr Software Test Engineer

Overview

BigBear.ai is seeking a Jr. Software Test Engineer to support the testing and quality assurance of web and mobile applications for mission-critical government systems. This entry-level role is ideal for someone early in their career who is passionate about software quality, detail-oriented, and eager to gain hands-on experience with automation frameworks and QA practices. You'll work closely with experienced testers and developers, learning modern testing tools and methodologies while contributing to the delivery of high-quality software solutions.

What you will do

• Assist with developing and executing automated test scripts for web and mobile applications
  
• Perform functional, regression, and smoke testing to verify software quality before release
  
• Document test cases, defects, and results in JIRA to ensure transparency and collaboration
  
• Support manual testing efforts when automation is not applicable
  
• Work with developers and senior QA engineers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve issues
  
• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of test plans, test cases, and automation suites
  
• Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and learn best practices in quality assurance
  
• Gain exposure to the software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements through deployment
  

What you need to have

• Bachelor's Degree and 2 to 5 years of experience; Master's Degree and 0 to 3 years of experience; 8 to 10 years with no degree
  
• Basic knowledge of automation testing concepts and tools (e.g., Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or similar)
• Familiarity with test case creation, defect tracking, and QA methodologies
• Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript basics to help test web applications
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Ability to clearly document test steps and results
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to pass a DHS background check
  

What we'd like you to have

• Project-based experience with automation testing
  
• Familiarity with Jira or other defect tracking tools
  
• Exposure to API testing (Postman, REST Assured, or similar)
  
• Basic understanding of Agile development practices
  
• Enthusiasm for continuous learning and building technical skills in test automation
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
