Duties
Help
  • Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage.
  • Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
  • Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Admit persons, denies entry or arranges for escorts, as appropriate.
  • Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
  • Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking and other high traffic areas.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent agrees to submit to a mandatory command directed urinalysis on a recurring basis.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56 within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and /or protective clothing and equipment.
  • This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete Security Guard Training.
  • The duties and training require for the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions (such as aerosol irritants) if necessary.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.

  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or 2) Maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
