As part of the EASS eCMS program supporting modernization and sustainment of VA acquisition systems, the 508 Testing Specialist ensures that all digital products, user interfaces, workflows, documents, and training materials comply with federal Section 508 accessibility standards. The role conducts accessibility evaluations, documents findings, supports remediation, and partners with development, UX, training, and functional teams to ensure fully inclusive user experiences across enterprise systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct comprehensive accessibility evaluations of user interfaces, forms, workflows, documents, and system features.


  • Perform testing using assistive technologies (screen readers, magnifiers, etc.) to evaluate accessibility interactions and functional performance.


  • Execute both manual and automated accessibility tests to identify accessibility defects, compliance risks, and usability barriers.


  • Document accessibility findings with clear descriptions, reproduction steps, severity, remediation recommendations, and validation expectations.


  • Enter accessibility issues into approved defect tracking systems and support retesting of fixes.


  • Contribute to accessibility-focused Test Plans, Test Scripts, Test Reports, Defect Logs, and Traceability Matrices.


  • Evaluate accessibility impacts when new system features, UI updates, workflow changes, or content updates are introduced.


  • Partner with UX and development teams to provide guidance on accessible design patterns and compliance expectations.


  • Review and validate accessibility compliance for training materials, job aids, help content, and other documentation.


  • Participate in Agile ceremonies-including sprint planning, refinement, and demos-to ensure accessibility considerations are addressed early in development cycles.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of five (5) years performing Section 508 and accessibility testing for enterprise systems.


  • Strong understanding of Section 508 standards, accessibility principles, user experience considerations, and functional performance criteria.


  • Experience using common assistive technologies and accessibility evaluation tools.


  • Ability to write clear, actionable remediation guidance and communicate accessibility risks.


  • Experience working within Agile development and testing cycles.


  • Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and defect management skills.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

  • Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs.


  • Experience evaluating accessibility in dashboards, data visualizations, and complex workflows.


  • Familiarity with usability testing and user-centered design.


  • Experience working in environments built on Azure, .NET, SQL Server, IIS, and related VA enterprise technologies.


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.


CLEARANCE:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
