Overview

Nakupuna Prime is seeking a Configuration Management Specialist to support the Army Human Resources Command. We are actively staffing contingent positions with a start date during the contract transition phase between December 12-26, 2025. The Configuration Management (CM) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining configuration management processes to ensure the integrity, traceability, and control of systems, software, and documentation throughout the product or system lifecycle. This role supports engineering, IT, and project teams by managing configuration baselines, documentation repositories, version control systems, and change management workflows. The CM Specialist ensures compliance with organizational standards, industry best practices, and applicable regulatory or contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

Configuration Management Planning & Execution
  • Develop and maintain CM plans, processes, and procedures that align with organizational standards and project requirements.
  • Establish and manage configuration baselines for hardware, software, documentation, and associated components.
  • Ensure all configuration items (CIs) are properly identified, documented, and tracked throughout their lifecycle.
  • Maintain configuration management databases (CMDBs), repositories, and version control systems.

Change Management & Control
  • Coordinate and support Change Control Boards (CCBs), including scheduling, documentation, and follow-up actions.
  • Evaluate change requests for completeness, impact, and alignment with established baselines.
  • Track and document changes to ensure accurate version control and auditability.
  • Ensure changes are executed in accordance with approved procedures and recorded appropriately.

Documentation & Records Management
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date configuration documentation, including system specifications, interface documents, and release records.
  • Support the development and maintenance of CM artifacts (e.g., configuration item lists, release notes, as-built documentation).
  • Conduct routine audits and reviews of CM data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.

Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Perform configuration audits (functional and physical) to validate system compliance with specifications and baselines.
  • Ensure CM processes comply with organizational, contractual, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, CMMI, DoD, ITIL).
  • Identify process gaps and recommend improvements to enhance CM quality and efficiency.

Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with engineering, development, operations, and project management teams to ensure CM requirements are understood and followed.
  • Provide CM guidance and training to team members as needed.
  • Support release management activities, including packaging, labeling, and documentation of software or system releases.

Continuous Improvement
  • Evaluate emerging tools and technologies to enhance CM automation and effectiveness.
  • Recommend best practices to streamline CM and change management workflows.
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives related to configuration, release management, and documentation control.


Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications: The candidate must be self-motivated, pay close attention to detail, and have good oral and written communication skills. Additional certifications may be required as prescribed by DoDD 8140 (e.g., Network+ CE, Security+ CE, CASP CE).
  • Experience with CM tools such as Git, Subversion, ServiceNow, Jira/Confluence, or equivalent systems.
  • Strong understanding of configuration identification, change control, audits, and status accounting.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and documentation capabilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.

Education/Experience:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in configuration management, document control, or related technical discipline.

Clearance Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance. An interim is required before receiving a formal job offer.

Work Location: Fort Knox, Kentucky. Telework may be authorized once approved by the Government.
