Overview
Nakupuna Prime is seeking a Mainframe Engineer to support the Army Human Resources Command. We are actively staffing contingent positions with a start date during the contract transition phase between December 12-26, 2025. The Mainframe Engineer is responsible for the technical support for Mainframe engineering and administration, system upgrades, incident responses, and other service impacts relating to the enterprise mainframe environment. This role ensures that mission-critical applications and infrastructure operate reliably, efficiently, and securely. The Mainframe Engineer supports system upgrades, troubleshooting, capacity planning, and integration efforts while working closely with application teams, operations staff, and leadership to support ongoing business needs and modernization initiatives.

Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications: The candidate must be self-motivated, pay close attention to detail, and have good oral and written communication skills. Additional certifications may be required as prescribed by DoDD 8140 (e.g., Network+ CE, Security+ CE, CASP CE).
Education/Experience:
Clearance Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance.
Work Location: Fort Knox, Kentucky. Telework may be authorized once approved by the Government.

Mainframe Systems Administration
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade mainframe hardware, operating systems, and subsystems
- Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and availability to ensure optimal operation.
- Perform system tuning, workload management, and capacity planning to support organizational needs.
- Manage mainframe storage, backup strategies, and disaster recovery preparations.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve complex mainframe system issues, failures, and performance anomalies.
- Provide advanced technical support for middleware, batch processing, and system utilities.
- Collaborate with application developers, operators, and support teams to address system dependencies and integration issues.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain mainframe security controls.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Support audits, vulnerability assessments, and security configuration reviews.
Operations & Documentation
- Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, including configuration records, procedures, and runbooks.
- Automate routine tasks where possible to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk.
- Participate in on-call rotations, after-hours maintenance windows, or incident response activities.
Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience supporting mainframe systems in an enterprise environment desired.
