Job Summary:
- The Robotics Cell Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training programs on the operation, maintenance, and tactical application of all air, ground, and maritime unmanned systems (UxS). This position requires a highly skilled and experienced UxS operator and evaluator with a proven ability to effectively instruct and mentor personnel on all aspects of UAS technology, flight techniques, and safety procedures. The instructor will contribute to the development of doctrine and Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) for UxS integration and employment as well as countering the associated threats within a maneuver warfare context.
Job Requirements
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Curriculum Development: Develop and maintain a comprehensive UxS training curriculum, encompassing foundational piloting skills, advanced maneuvers, maintenance procedures, regulatory compliance, and tactical applications.
- Instructional Delivery: Conduct classroom and hands-on training sessions for personnel of varying skill levels, ranging from novice to experienced pilots.
- Unmanned Systems Program Management: Track and provide mechanism to maintain currency and proficiency of RRTEG and training audience personnel on employed unmanned systems IAW USSOCOM and applicable Marine Corps standards. This includes serving as a SUAS-E as required and for MRR UxS systems at a minimum.
- Flight Supervision: Supervise and evaluate student pilots during flight training exercises, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintenance Training: Instruct students on the proper maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of UxS systems, including vehicles, controllers, cameras, and video transmission equipment.
- Tactical Application: Develop and deliver training on the tactical employment of UxS in various operational scenarios, including reconnaissance, security, and counter-UxS operations.
- Safety Management: Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations and procedures during all training activities. Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Equipment Management: Manage and maintain a fleet of UxS and associated equipment, ensuring operational readiness.
- Doctrine & TTP Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of doctrine and TTPs for UxS employment, based on lessons learned and emerging technologies.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain current knowledge of and ensure compliance with all applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and local airspace restrictions.
- Training Coordination: In concert with RRTEG RMT manager(s) and applicable range control agencies, coordinate and plan for use of unmanned systems aboard intended training venues. This includes but is not limited to airspace deconfliction, launch and recovery considerations, and spectrum requests for both unmanned systems and counter-unmanned systems for both blue and red cell actions.
- Liaison: Maintain relationships with MARFORSOC G-5 and G-8 (CD&I) to provide input on and receive updates about ongoing DOTMLPF development. Provide awareness to the MRR on fielding plans, testing opportunities, and combat evaluations for future systems.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a UxS pilot, with demonstrated proficiency in advanced flight maneuvers and aerial cinematography. Prior military experience and designation as a SUAS-E preferred.
- Certifications: FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate required. Additional certifications (e.g., Betaflight, DJI) are highly desirable.
Skills:
- Proficient UxS pilot in a variety of environments/conditions, including operating at night.
- Strong understanding of UxS technology, including flight controllers, cameras, video transmission systems, and batteries. Familiar with a variety of control systems: GPS, radio frequency, fiber lines, troubleshooting and EMS considerations, EW/collections payload integration. Able to be trained in computer aided design and additive/reductive manufacturing and fabrication.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and instructional skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging and effective training programs.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing UxS systems, including accounting for electromagnetic spectrum interference.
- Knowledge of FAA regulations and airspace restrictions.
- Familiarity with military planning processes (e.g., MDMP) is a plus.
- Environmental Requirements: Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 80 pounds) and to operate in outdoor environments.
- Proactively seeks to stay up to date on current friendly and enemy TTPs, equipment and capabilities.
