Overview
LMI seeks an experienced Senior Cloud Architect to lead cloud architecture design, implementation, and sustainment for the U.S. Army Center for Initial Military Training's (CIMT) Holistic Health & Fitness (H2F) management System. This environment supports a vendor-developed application and includes Army cloud hosting, cybersecurity, continuous ATO (cATO) compliance, DevSecOps enablement, data ingestion, and a custom user interface.
The Senior Cloud Architect will design secure, scalable cloud solutions in an Army-approved cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or cARMY), ensuring compliance with DoW and Army cybersecurity policies. This role includes ownership of system architecture, network configuration, identity/access implementation, logging/monitoring, and cloud service integration. The architect will collaborate closely with cybersecurity engineers, DevSecOps engineers, data engineers, full stack developers, and the TPM to deliver a resilient, secure, and maintainable cloud platform. This is a senior technical leadership role requiring deep experience in DoW cloud environments, RMF/cATO, Zero Trust architecture, and cloud-native modernization.

Responsibilities
- Design, document, and implement the end-to-end cloud architecture supporting the CIMT H2F Application.
- Define environment topology (networks, VPC/VNet structure, IAM, routing, security groups, firewalls, service boundaries).
- Architect scalable compute, storage, networking, and data-processing components aligned with Army enterprise cloud requirements.
- Select and configure cloud-native services appropriate for IL2/IL4/IL5 environments.
- Ensure architecture aligns with RMF, Zero Trust, Army data-tagging requirements, and cATO frameworks.
- Collaborate with the ISSM/ISSO to develop system security documentation (SSP, SAR, POA&M materials).
- Implement and validate required cybersecurity controls and support continuous monitoring.
- Architect logging, SOC/SIEM integration, audit readiness, and vulnerability remediation workflows.
- Architect and support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Ensure the environment supports secure deployment and integration of the vendor-developed application.
- Guide implementation of containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS/AKS), and automated scanning.
- Design cloud components that integrate with:
- The vendor-developed H2F application
- The custom user interface (UI) built by LMI engineers
- Army enterprise systems and data services
- Support development of APIs, gateways, and identity/access management mechanisms (e.g., CAC, SSO, OAuth2, SAML).
- Work with data engineers to design secure data ingestion pipelines.
- Define data storage, encryption, retention, tagging, and access-layer architecture.
- Ensure the environment supports dashboards, analytics tools, and data products required by Human Performance specialists.
- Architect monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability systems (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, ELK, Grafana, etc.).
- Define and implement backup/restore, failover, BC/DR, and environment hardening strategies.
- Support environment troubleshooting, incident response, and performance tuning.
- Provide senior-level technical leadership across a cross-functional Agile team.
- Mentor junior cloud engineers and guide architectural decision-making.
- Participate in sprint planning, technical backlog refinement, and architecture reviews.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into technical specifications and system designs.
Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, IT, Cybersecurity, or related field.
- 10+ years of cloud engineering/architecture experience, including support to DoW or federal IT programs.
- Hands-on experience architecting solutions in AWS, Azure, or cARMY cloud environments.
- Extensive experience with RMF, cATO, Zero Trust, and DoW cybersecurity controls.
- Expertise in IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep), automation, and DevSecOps toolchains.
- Strong knowledge of VPC/VNet networking, IAM, encryption, key management, and secure cloud design.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/AKS).
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoW Secret clearance.
- Location: Remote
- Travel: Ability to travel to the customer site at Fort Eustis, Virginia and/or the LMI HQ in Tysons, VA up 1-2 times per quarter to plan work and collaborate with the agile team and Army stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Architect Expert, or equivalent certification.
- CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CCSP, or similar cybersecurity certifications.
- Experience supporting H2F, CIMT, T2COM, or similar Army programs.
- Experience architecting IL4/IL5 DoD cloud environments.
- Familiarity with enterprise-level API gateway services and identity management systems.
