Duties
- Performs work planning responsibilities. Serves as HSC Dock Chief coordinating daily and weekly HSC work schedule.
- Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns work to subordinate leaders/workers and provides technical direction in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.
- Performs personnel administration responsibilities. Advises employees in advance of performance expectations and explains new work techniques, as required.
- Provides a work environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
- Ensures education in, compliance with, and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas. Executes specific disaster control duties during off shift conditions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to supervise.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies such as fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engines, landing gear assemblies, airframe, and control surfaces.
2. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and /or test equipment common to trades supervised.
3. Skill to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications for maintenance of aircraft electrical, environmental, and hydraulic equipment and/or systems.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and maintain effective working relationships.
5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization; and apply agency safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Considerable standing, walking, lifting, sitting, and climbing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employee typically works in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Subject to cuts, burns, chemical irritations, strains, electrical shock, and abrasions while repairing and handling equipment. Exposed to unpleasant conditions from dirt, solvents, fuel, fumes, oil, grease, and hydraulic fluids, which may cause skin irritations. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as earplugs, face shields, gloves, glasses and safety shoes. Work on the flightline is subject to loud noise from jet engines.
