Description

Position Summary

The Network Engineer provides advanced technical expertise, comprehensive network design, and architectural guidance in support of complex DoD enterprise environments. This role requires mastery of technical principles, theories, and concepts, as well as the ability to independently design, engineer, and implement network solutions that meet current and future mission requirements. The engineer will interact frequently with senior-level customer stakeholders, lead technical briefings, support major enterprise network modernization initiatives, and ensure full compliance with DoD standards and industry best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts to design, develop, and implement enterprise network architectures.
  • Develop specifications and detailed schematics for network designs, hardware and software selection, and integration approaches.
  • Provide detailed recommendations for hardware/software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for optimal efficiency and capacity planning.
  • Conduct testing and validation of network systems in operational and lab environments.
  • Maintain technical expertise in routers, switches, firewalls, gateways, load balancers, and other network/transport technologies.
  • Evaluate emerging network technologies and provide written recommendations to enhance capability and performance.
  • Create and review network engineering documentation, ensuring alignment with operational requirements, DoD standards, and architectural frameworks.
  • Coordinate and lead cross-team network integration efforts, ensuring interface control and full lifecycle documentation.
  • Perform packet capture analysis; use tools such as Wireshark to diagnose complex issues.
  • Create Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) equipment lists and costing for network expansions or new designs.
  • Lead briefings, technical meetings, and design reviews for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and determine technical approaches for assigned projects.
  • Support enterprise network design leveraging DNAC, NDFC, ACI/AFI, and other enterprise-class technologies.
  • Troubleshoot and provide detailed analysis of routing and switching issues (TCP/IP, DNS, FTP, SSH, ACLs, VLANs, BGP, DMZ, etc.).
  • Interact with management and senior-level customer representatives regarding project status, schedules, and technical decisions.
  • Support mission requirements during evenings/weekends as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance; Must be willing to Obtain and Maintain and active Top Secret/ SCI (TS/SCI) clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise/global network engineering, design, and implementation.
  • 5+ years working with Network & Transport technologies in complex environments.
  • IAT II Baseline Certification (Security+ CE or equivalent)
  • CCNA
  • Experience with DNAC, NDFC, AFI/ACI, and large-scale Cisco enterprise platforms.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals and routing/switching technologies.
  • Experience creating formal network integration procedures, interface control documents, and architectural diagrams.
  • Experience with packet capture analysis and tools (Wireshark, etc.).
  • Experience working within DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF) environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Top Secret/SCI Clearance
  • CCNP, CCDP, or equivalent advanced certifications
  • Experience with Cisco ACI design, implementation, and troubleshooting
  • Experience managing and supporting Cisco ISE solutions across enterprise environments
  • Experience integrating Cisco ISE with cross-functional systems
  • Experience supporting DoD or Federal Government network operations
