Position Overview:
Elder Research is seeking a Sr. Tax Analyst to serve as a senior federal tax advisor supporting advanced analytical, policy, and research needs for our government partners. You will lead interpretation of complex federal tax statutes and regulations, draft authoritative guidance, support litigation and hearings activities, and review proposed legislation for downstream impacts. This is a highly consultative, senior-level role requiring deep subject-matter expertise, independent judgment, and the ability to communicate complex tax issues to a wide range of stakeholdersincluding agency leadership, legal teams, auditors, and industry groups.

What Youll Do
- Interpret and analyze complex federal tax statutes, regulations, rulings, and legislative proposals, including developing discussion papers and authoritative guidance summaries.
- Prepare, draft, and revise complex administrative rules and tax policy documentation to align with changes in legislation, court decisions, hearings outcomes, or agency strategy.
- Conduct advanced tax research and develop written responses to private letter ruling requests, audit inquiries, and agency-level questions requiring expert interpretation.
- Support federal litigation and administrative hearings by preparing research, summaries, and technical analyses for legal teams and government counsel.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on proposed federal tax legislation and identify impacts to agencies, taxpayers, and systems.
- Develop and deliver seminars, workshops, or technical briefings for federal agencies and industry groups.
- Lead special projects, mentor junior analysts, and contribute to the continuous improvement of Elder Researchs federal tax research capabilities.
What You Bring
- Demonstrated expertise in federal tax law, regulations, and policy interpretation, with depth in multiple federal tax domains or specialized areas.
- Ability to apply advanced independent judgment to ambiguous or novel tax issues.
- Experience supporting litigation, rulemaking, or legislative analysis for federal programs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax concepts for diverse audiences.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively across technical, legal, and operational teams.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree
- 5-10 years overall Tax Analysis experience
- Must hold a current IRS Public Trust Clearance
- Must be located in the Washington, DC area
