Duties
As an POLICE OFFICER, GS-0083-07, you will perform the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions: Incumbent may full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence, and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction; is required to meet all requirements of Federal, DoD, AF,MAJCOM, State, and local level rules and regulations to maintain trainings and weapons qualifications, as a police officer on a military installation, which may include maintaining Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification; conduct Investigations/Surveillance: Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) or the scope of the higher-level detectives assigned to the Squadron; perform as Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC) Controller: Serve as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces; execute the Quick Reaction Checklists (QRC) to ensure proper execution of routine, emergency, and alarm responses; acts as the initial point of contact for all persons, activities, visitors, and complainants either in person or telephonically regarding any activity that require police actions; perform emergency response and incident command and control: Acts as the initial on scene commander for significant and catastrophic events (e.g., active shooter, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters) and initiates Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS); perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements: Must have understanding of the basic principles and concepts of military security forces functions, laws, policies, regulations, rules, procedures, and methods. Also, have general experience performing functions such as weapon systems and resource security, air base defense, law enforcement; and, if applicable for the position, experience in handling military working dog functions or combat arms functions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must have least one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 level or the equivalent experiences in performing practical security force (SF) activities in direct support of the military weapon systems and physical security; law and order; or area security operations. Work experiences are in law enforcement, maintaining law and order, preserving the peace, and protecting life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of military installations. Has experiences in protecting federal property from hazards such as sabotage, espionage, trespass, theft, fire, and accident or willful damage and destruction. Has experiences in responding to disaster and relief operations and participates in contingencies.

- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- You may be required to successfully complete a 1- or 2- year probation/trail period to assess performance, conduct, agency needs, public interest, and efficiency. Employment ends unless certified in writing that it advances the agencies interest.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- Incumbent must qualify and remain qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
- Must work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.
- Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g., respirator mask).
- Subject to duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard in accordance with AFI 36-2646,Security Forces Training and Standardization Evaluation Programs.
- Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by NGB/A4 and obtain DoD Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification.
- Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications in CPR techniques, self-aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually.
- Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques, and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations
- The incumbent must obtain and maintain qualifications and/or certifications as identified by the hiring official of all equipment and tools necessary to safely perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time,
