Overview:
Akumen is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Mid-Level Business Analyst to support a high-visibility Federal client. This role involves conducting detailed requirements analysis, documenting business processes, and supporting technical deployments through communications and ITSM processes. To succeed in this role, you will need to possess strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, familiarity with Agile Scrum and willingness and ability to participate in scrum teams, as well as an ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and documenting business and technical requirements.
• Experience modeling business processes and workflows.

• Familiarity with tools such as SQL, Power BI, and basic system integration concepts.
• Comfort working in Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall environments.

• Experience navigating complex regulatory, operational, and compliance landscapes in federal settings.
Responsibilities:
• Define project scope and objectives based on user needs and business systems knowledge.
• Elicit and analyze business requirements using interviews, workshops, and other techniques.
• Facilitate requirement negotiations among stakeholders and product owners.
• Help stakeholders envision process changes resulting from solution implementation.
• Develop clear, complete user stories and requirements documentation.
• Maintain and update system requirements, specifications and related artifacts.
• Provide guidance to junior Business Analysts as needed.
• Collaborate with technical teams to define feasible solutions to business challenges.
• Operate effectively within Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall development methodologies.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related Information Technology field.
• 3–5 years of experience gathering and developing requirements for IT applications and supporting IT deployments and projects.
• Experience with cloud-native environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, ServiceNow) and integration technologies.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Experience writing technical documentation.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage workload independently.
• Proven ability to multitask and meet deadlines across multiple projects.
• Proactive in identifying and implementing process improvements.
• Collaborative team player within Agile development environments.
• Prior experience working with Government clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Business Analysis certifications (e.g., CCBA, PMI-PBA, CBAP, IIBA-AAC, CPRE, CBPP, AgileBA).
• Experience with enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, CRM, or custom platforms).
• Knowledge of UX/UI principles and user-centered design.
• Experience facilitating stakeholder workshops and interviews.
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum, and scaled Agile frameworks (e.g., SAFe, Kanban) a bonus.
• Exposure to business process reengineering or Lean Six Sigma.
• Experience with ServiceNow platform ITSM components.
• Proficiency with Agile tools at scale (e.g., Jira Align, Azure DevOps, Rally).
