Duties
- Performs tasks to install, overhaul, repair, fabricate, and or modify electronically controlled industrial systems, components, and/or subassemblies for facility environmental controls system (ECS).
- Troubleshoots CPS equipment with complex problems and conduct extensive repairs requiring analytical judgment to locate malfunctions. Performs preventive maintenance on CPS, ECS and HVAC/R systems and equipment.
- Performs essential electrical, electronic, electromechanical work incidental to the maintenance and operation of CPS, ECS and HVAC/R systems.
- Performs preventive maintenance on CPS, ECS and HVAC/R systems and equipment. Installs, modifies, overhauls, repairs, and maintains a variety of complex heating boilers and/or heating systems, single and multiple fuel power boilers, and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains residential, commercial and industrial-sized, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning (AC), and cooling systems with complex problems and extensive repair requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance & Operations Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Require extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of Collective Protection Systems, Environmental Controls Systems and heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration operations, capabilities, and synchronization of multifaceted operating controls to meet mechanical and electrical design specifications for producing a toxic-free environment in support of wartime chemical attack.
2. Wide-ranging knowledge of the operations, capabilities, and limitations of complex electric, electronic and electromagnetic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices; knowledge of electric, electronic and electromagnetic theory and circuits and basic logic circuits for power, timing, and motion controls, indicating and counting mechanisms, and similar devices; knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pressure and environmental controls system.
3. Knowledge of the principles and theories of collective protection systems, environmental control systems heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Properties of refrigerants; mechanical, electrical, electronic, and electromechanical principles to inspect, install, test, and maintain. Repair steam and hydronic boilers and associated auxiliary control equipment.
4. Ability to test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and install complete operational controls systems. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data, such as schematics, diagrams, and technical orders relating to the electronics trade.
5. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures; and regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation. Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and a variety of test equipment.
6. Skill in dismantling, repairing, and reassembling pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, and evaporators to include balancing, aligning, and maintaining turbines, pumps, generators, and ash shredding equipment and preheaters; troubleshooting complex problems on large projects; and applying prescribed test procedures.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy equipment using hoists, holders, and pulleys as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee works indoors and outdoors, on elevated structures, and in cramped areas. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to chemicals, heat, steam, noise, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Occasionally works outside, on top of buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Subject to possible burns, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises, and chemicalirritations. To reduce dangers from these and other similar conditions, follows prescribed safety practices and usesafety equipment such as safety glasses, hard-toe shoes, respirators, hard hats, and fire retardant gloves. - Travel throughout the Republic of Korea to conduct CPS and HVAC/R maintenance, troubleshooting, certifications and re-certifications. The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle.

- Participate in war readiness exercises and real-world contingencies to test and certify CPS, ECS and HVAC/R equipment to meet wartime mission requirements.
