We are seeking a highly capable Software Engineer with strong experience in Java, C/C++, distributed systems, and Linux-based development. The ideal candidate will design and integrate high-performance communication systems, leverage modern middleware technologies, and contribute to technical planning and architectural evolution for defense-related programs. This role requires eligibility for a Secret Clearance and experience working in complex, mission-critical environments.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and integrate software components using Java and C/C++ in a Linux OS environment.
Implement and optimize Linux/Unix socket programming for high-performance communications.
Develop and integrate middleware technologies including gRPC, Google Protocol Buffers, and DDS.
Architect and implement publish-subscribe communication patterns for distributed systems.
Collaborate on computer networking tasks such as protocol design, diagnostics, and performance tuning.
Apply common software design patterns in Java and C++ to create scalable, maintainable solutions.
Utilize containerization technologies such as Docker, and build tools such as Gradle and CMake.
Participate in research initiatives, write technical whitepapers, and support system rearchitecture efforts.
Engage in design reviews, deep technical discussions, and planning activities with government and program stakeholders.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
5+ years of experience in software development with C++ and/or Java.
Strong experience with Linux environments and socket programming.
Hands-on experience with DDS middleware frameworks.
Eligible for Secret Clearance (must obtain prior to start).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with publish-subscribe architectures and distributed system design.
Solid understanding of computer networking principles and protocols.
Familiarity with containerization tools (Docker) and modern build systems (Gradle, CMake).
Prior experience supporting Navy or DoD programs.
Experience with legacy system modernization and system-of-systems integration.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps methodologies.
