Job Description:
Position Overview:
The Superintendent with Safety and Estimating responsibilities leads field operations for construction and electronic/security system projects. This role ensures safety compliance, accurate estimating, cost control, project scheduling, and high-quality field execution. Acting as a bridge between preconstruction/estimating and field operations, the Superintendent must demonstrate strong leadership, technical expertise, and organizational capability.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Leadership & Execution-
Lead and supervise field construction operations from project kickoff through completion.
Monitor field progress daily/weekly including labor production, material usage, and performance against estimates.
Maintain site logistics including equipment needs, material deliveries, staging, and subcontractor coordination.
Mentor and guide foremen, technicians, and subcontractors; ensure adequate staffing levels.
Estimating & Preconstruction Support-
Collaborate with estimators and project managers to develop accurate cost estimates and bills of material.
Participate in preconstruction by providing field-driven labor inputs, unit pricing, constructability feedback, and safety/quality cost considerations.
Review drawings and specifications for constructability and coordinate with engineering to resolve discrepancies.
Planning & Scheduling-
Develop and maintain integrated project plans including:
Schedules
Manpower forecasts
Material logistics
Cross-team coordination
Work closely with project management to ensure alignment on schedule milestones and project goals.
Safety Leadership-
Enforce company safety programs and ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and relevant regulatory standards.
Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, job hazard analyses (JHAs), incident/accident reporting, and continuous site safety monitoring.
Ensure all permits, licensing, and code requirements are met throughout project execution.
Documentation & Reporting-
Prepare and submit daily reports, RFIs, change orders, safety reports, and quality inspection documentation.
Maintain project budget health by tracking costs, productivity, change orders, and cash flow.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
10+ years of field construction or installation experience, ideally in electrical, electronic security, or systems integration.
Prior experience in estimating or preconstruction, including development of cost inputs, BOMs, and labor rates.
Proven safety leadership experience with OSHA compliance, JHAs, and safety program implementation.
Strong knowledge of construction codes and relevant electrical/security codes (NFPA, NEC, state/local).
Experience with project scheduling tools (e.g., CPM scheduling, Primavera P6, MS Project).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
