Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Experience working with a wide spectrum of public affairs responsibilities to include functional areas such as Community Relations, Command Information, and Media Relations. 2) Composing a variety of articles, news releases, speeches, social media posts and communication plans; information papers/fact sheets to convey information and to clarify the organization's position; 3) Presenting oral and or written information to internal and external audiences to gain support from those audiences for existing or proposed programs; 4) Applying communications principles and techniques for various forms of mass communications media when developing, executing, and evaluating public affairs plans, policies, and practices. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS 11 or above.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

- Serves as a public affairs specialist in the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).
- Researches, develops and staffs responses to routine media queries, staff and coordinates long term media projects such as book, movie, or documentary requests.
- Coordinates and liaises with subordinate units and higher headquarters to facilitate media coverage of the command.
- Serves as spokesperson for USASOC.
- Coordinate the release of public information via multiple forms of release methods and development of plans for the release of official communications.
- Directly coordinates with the Army and SOCOM related to public affairs activities within the command and subordinate units.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- May travel TDY up to 15% of the time.
- A satisfactory medical examination is required prior to assignment into the position.
- Position requires employee to perform after-hours duty as on-call PAO, requiring the employee to carry a mobile communication device and be available to report to duty within one hour of being notified, as determined by the director.
- May be required to work overtime or extended hours.
