Job Description
5-D Systems, a KRATOS Company, is seeking a highly motivated candidate to lead the engineering organization and maintain a high standard of system and software engineering excellence. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for staffing, fostering the company culture, creating/maintaining system and software engineering company processes, and providing technical expertise and contribution. The team is composed of engineers with various roles across aerospace and defense programs, including IPT leads. This role requires a combination of technical skills, soft skills, and leadership experience and will support target and tactical aircraft, radar, hypersonics, and software development programs. The Engineering Manager will collaborate and coordinate with other engineering managers, program managers, and chief engineers, and report to the Director of 5-D Systems.

Management and Leadership Duties Include:
- Ensuring the engineering team is staffed appropriately to meet company growth and business objectives. Leads hiring, resource allocation, and performance management for the engineering organization.
- Providing the engineering team members with feedback and recognition.
- Generating and performing annual performance reviews.
- Working in collaboration with company leadership and business development to forecast engineering requirements and capability growth areas.
- Building and maintaining relationships with customers and other engineering managers to ensure the appropriate level of engineering is provided to new and existing customers.
- Supporting proposal development efforts.
- Completing engineering forecasts/estimates to complete (ETC), monitoring team progress, and reporting to business team.
Technical Duties Include:
- Responsible for overseeing engineering development activities including planning, requirements, design, implementation, verification, and validation.
- Analyzing customer/stakeholder requirements, decomposing requirements, deriving requirements, and allocating requirements to system and subsystem elements.
- Developing system architectures for new and existing systems.
- Conducting trade studies and performing design research of basic engineering concepts and explorations to determine optimal requirements and architectures.
- Developing system/subsystem interface definitions, system schematics, and system design documentation.
- Developing subsystem and system test plans and completing data analysis and test reporting.
- Executing integration and test activities to include benchtop, hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, subsystem/system acceptance, verification testing, and flight testing.
- Building engineering analysis or test tools.
- Leading or supporting system engineering technical reviews (SETR).
- Traveling to customer locations as needed (>25% travel may be expected at times).
Experience and Skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer or Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years of experience working in a highly technical, aerospace-related industry.
- 10+ years of experience working in a Systems or Software Systems Engineering position and 2+ years of experience managing a team.
- Familiarity with all phases of the Aerospace Systems Engineering design process: concept of operations, requirements development, software/system Architecture, system Integration and test, Verification and Validation.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher
