Position Description:
The Windows System Administrator is responsible for providing technical support and troubleshooting for a range of Windows based systems, ensuring compliance with DoD 8570.01-M standards. The role involves operating and maintaining end point, server and other Windows based systems under the supervision of senior administrators. This position is in a mixed operating system environment so you will be expected to learn some aspects of Linux based and Audio Visual (AV) systems, but Linux and AV administration may not be your primary responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Identity & Account Management
• Technical Support and User Account Management:
• Reset user passwords and lock/unlock user accounts.
• Respond promptly to customer inquiries and issues pertaining to system wide access and functionality.
• Documentation:
• Document customer system issues and resolutions for future reference.
• Maintain and update technical documentation, including user manuals, FAQs and Work Instructions (WI).
Endpoint Device Management
• Hardware and Software Management:
• Set up and configure new laptops, workstations, thin clients, and other endpoint devices as needed.
• Maintain peripherals such as printers and scanners, to include printing servers, queues and drivers.
• Download and install and integrate standard functional drivers for endpoint devices.
• System Updates and Maintenance:
• Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as system updates and software patches.
• Implement required software patches and security fixes to ensure endpoint security.
• Test and validate proper operation and configuration with appropriate security patches and fixes before restoring any device to the network.
• Troubleshooting:
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on endpoints, peripherals and server platforms.
• Restart workstations and servers remotely when required to resolve issues.
• Identify and escalate high-priority issues to senior technicians or management.
• User Support and Training:
• Assist junior level administrators with User issues when they require more in-depth troubleshooting.
AV & Collaboration Tools Management
• AV Support:
• Manage and troubleshoot AV equipment in conference rooms and auditoriums.
• Assist with the operation and scheduling of AV systems such as EZ Room Scheduler and Webex Phones.
• User Assistance:
• Provide basic user support for AV systems and collaboration tools during overlapping conferences and meeting spaces.
• Document issues related to AV tools and provided resolutions and suggestions for improvement to senior administrators.
Backup & Recovery
• Backup Management:
• Monitor and verify backups using solutions like Avamar Backup Solution in addition to other methods.
• Perform routine data recovery tasks.
• Incident Reporting:
• Immediately notify their operational chain when incidents or intrusions are detected.
General Responsibilities:
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Document system issues, resolutions, and changes made to systems utilizing SolarWinds Service Desk.
• Maintain and update technical documentation, FAQs, user manuals and WI.
• Security and Compliance:
• Implement and validate software patches, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards.
• Test new technologies for security and functionality before implementation.
• Apply DoD STIG requirements across multiple environments.
• Collaboration:
• Collaborate with other mid and senior level system administrators to resolve complex issues.
• Participate in team meetings to discuss system improvements and user feedback.
• Infrastructure Support:
• Assist with IT equipment installations in IT comms closet racks and other non-traditional installations.
• Assist with cabling installations in ceiling, floors, under floor panels and in standard IT rack configurations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Must be United States citizen and possess a final Top Secret (TS) security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
• Must live within a practical commuting distance to regular duty location or willing to relocate at your own expense.
• 5-7 years of experience in system administration or a related IT field.
• Ability to work on feet for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and move IT rack equipment alone or in a team setting.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to effectively work independently and function in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work calmly under pressure.
• Must be certified at the IAT II level or higher per DoD 8570.01-M.
• Demonstrated experience in end-user support, endpoint management, system administration and cybersecurity.
• Strong knowledge of DoD security policies and procedures.
• Ability to work collaboratively with various cybersecurity and IT personnel.
• Excellent problem-solving and incident response skills.
• Knowledge in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System, Windows Operating System, Windows Active Directory, Windows Group Policy, server administration (Windows / Linux) and virtualization maintenance to include type-1 hypervisor deployment and administration a plus.
