Job Description

We are seeking experienced remote Claims Operations Supervisors to support FEMA's Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon (HPCC) Claims Office across Claims Review, Quality Control, and Appeals operations. Team Leads provide day-to-day oversight of staff, ensure compliance with FEMA policies and workflow requirements, and serve as the primary escalation point for technical and performance issues.

The Claims Operations Supervisors (Team Leads) are responsible for maintaining production standards, resolving documentation or policy questions, coordinating with FEMA leadership, and helping ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of work products across the claims lifecycle.

These positions require strong leadership skills, deep experience in claims/case processing, and the ability to operate in a high-tempo environment supporting survivors of the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon fire.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day workload distribution across assigned staff (Claims Reviewers, QC Analysts, Appeals Analysts, or mixed teams).
  • Provide real-time technical guidance on valuation, documentation requirements, duplication of benefits, and policy interpretation.
  • Review trends in QC returns or errors and provide coaching, corrective guidance, and follow-up to ensure improvements.
  • Track staff productivity, performance, attendance, and compliance with FEMA standards.
  • Escalate complex cases, policy questions, or systemic issues to program leadership promptly.
  • Coordinate between staff and FEMA Technical Monitors (TMs), CORs, and other government leads as needed.
  • Support onboarding, training compliance, and proficiency maintenance for all team members.
  • Ensure accurate and timely updates in the System of Record (SOR) for all team activities.
  • Support production of determination memos, appeals analyses, or QC reviews depending on team function.
  • Lead or participate in briefings with FEMA leadership regarding trends, risks, and operational issues.
  • Maintain operational excellence while meeting strict timelines outlined in FEMA's performance requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of combined experience in claims/case processing, disaster recovery, insurance adjusting, or similar roles.
  • Prior experience leading teams in high-volume, deadline-driven environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of documentation standards, valuation principles, and compensable damage categories.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with claims management systems, databases, and digital workflow tools.
  • Strong organizational, coaching, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal policy, regulation, and FEMA guidance.

Preferred Experience
  • Prior FEMA experience (IA, PA, NFIP, OGC, SBA ODA, or previous HPCC work).
  • Experience supervising claims review, QC, appeals, insurance adjusting, or adjudication teams.
  • Experience with wildfire, flood, or disaster-related valuation and documentation.
