Senior Network Engineer (DoD/AFIN)
This role is critical to the Air Force mission, directly supporting mission success by securing information systems and sustaining infrastructure across Hanscom Air Force Base (HAFB) and its geographically separated units (GSUs). You will be an essential part of the broader Air Force Information Network (AFIN) enterprise, requiring a strong mix of integration, flexibility, AFIN knowledge, and technical expertise.
Core Responsibilities
You will work on a team to manage and maintain a high-performance, converged Gigabit Ethernet network infrastructure, ensuring secure and reliable service delivery.
Network Design & Engineering: Design, install, configure, and troubleshoot the network infrastructure with minimal supervision. Manage daily operational tasks and ongoing upgrade projects for routers, switches, and network management tools.
Operations & Troubleshooting: Provide day-to-day operational support, including network debugging, diagnosing data troubles, opening trouble tickets, and resolving customer support cases through Tier 3 support.
Network Modernization: Participate in the design and integration of new networks into the existing architecture, leveraging the latest networking technologies.Compliance & Documentation: Assist in securing network systems to meet all applicable DoD, AF, and DISA compliance standards. Maintain network topology maps (classified and unclassified) using tools like Visio and ensure detailed record-keeping for military processes and procedures.
Maintenance & Support: Participate in system maintenance, optimization, and performance activities. Support emergency operations on a 24/7 as-needed basis and be flexible for weekend work as required.
Required Qualifications
Clearance: Active Secret clearance is required.
Certification: CompTIA Security+ is required. CCNA certification is highly desired.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in IT (or equivalent) plus 3+ years of experience in a Network role. (An additional 4 years of experience may substitute for the degree.)
Technical Expertise:Hands-on expertise in the design, configuration, and installation of Cisco/Juniper routers and switches.Strong working and troubleshooting knowledge of Layer 2 & Layer 3 protocols, especially in a VoIP environment.Working knowledge of IP address Management/DHCP/DNS/Syslog, and network monitoring tools like SolarWinds Orion NPM/NCM and Cisco ISE.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills. Flexibility with hours is required for operational support.
